Lodi-era mosque collapses in Agra | India News – Times of India
A 500 year old three-domed mosque by Lodi era in the Sikandra area of Agra completely collapsed on Saturday after incessant rains for three consecutive days in the district, it was reported. Officials said on Sunday that “two of the three domes have collapsed and the third one is now on a shaky footing”. Built with Kakaiya bricks (flat, thin bricks made of red burnt clay) and lime, the mosque structure was built on an 8-foot high foundation. Shakeel Chauhan, national general secretary of the Tourist Guides’ Federation of India, said: “It was part of Agra’s heritage. We will continue with the centre to at least preserve the site and try to redevelop the structure.”
