‘Loss for dictatorship’: AAP says SC bail order for Kejriwal a big blow to BJP | India News – Times of India


NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a case involving excise policy, triggering celebrations among members and supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Arvind Kejriwal, expressed her gratitude on social media, congratulating AAP supporters and hoping for the release of other jailed AAP leaders. “Congratulations to the AAP family! Kudos for staying strong. Wishing for the speedy release of our other leaders too,” she posted.
AAP MP Raghav Chadha welcomed the Supreme Court decision, saying it vindicated Kejriwal’s “honest politics” and suggested his detention was politically motivated.
“I thank the Supreme Court… He (Arvind Kejriwal) is not just a name but a brand of honest politics. He had to go to jail for 6 months because of his growing popularity,” Chadha said.
He added that the AAP is poised for renewed strength ahead of the upcoming Haryana elections, where Kejriwal is expected to lead the campaign.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia hailed the court verdict as a victory for truth. He accused the BJP of targeting Kejriwal to hamper his work for public interest. “Once again, truth has won in the fight against lies and conspiracies,” Sisodia said. “An honest man who worked to improve the lives of people was jailed. There is no greater sin than this in the history of democracy.”
Sisodia further attacked the CBI and ED, calling them “caged parrots” under the control of the BJP-led central government. He stressed that the Supreme Court verdict was a clear message to the ruling party to stop its “dictatorial regime.”
AAP leader Sanjay Singh attacked the BJP and alleged that the Modi government was using investigation agencies to falsely accuse Kejriwal. “We have been saying from day one that this entire issue is based on false facts… The Modi government, the dictatorial regime, used ED and CBI to present false facts,” Singh said.
Ministers of Delhi Atishi and Gopal Rai also praised the verdict. Atishi posted on social media: “Satyamev Jayate. Truth can be distorted, not defeated.” She added that despite two years of investigation, no evidence of wrongdoing has been found against AAP leaders.
“Despite all efforts over the last two years, the ED and CBI could not recover a single penny from this alleged scam… The Supreme Court asked the CBI to be fair, impartial and neutral,” Atishi said.
Gopal Rai called the event a “great victory for our party and a loss for the dictatorship”.
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21, 2024 as part of an investigation into money laundering during 2021-2022. Excise Policy in Delhiwhich has since been deleted. The CBI arrested him on June 26, 2024, while he was still in ED custody, in connection with the same excise case.
