Lucy Dyer charged with death by dangerous driving after Eva Maria Sorin was killed in Llanelli . crash

A mother-of-one cried in court when she was accused of causing the death of a six-month-old baby in a horror crash.

Lucy Dyer, 23, was taken into custody for her own protection after a hearing at the Llanelli Magistrates Court, where she is charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

It comes as Eva Maria Sorin’s devastated parents, who died in the car accident, said their “souls are burned inside.”

Dyer was behind the wheel of a BMW Friday night when she collided with a family car in Llanelli, South Wales in a 20mph zone with baby Eva strapped in a child seat, a court heard.

Eva Maria’s heartbroken parents Carmen and Florin, who came to Britain from Romania three years ago, said their “pain was indescribable” in an emotional post on social media after the crash.

Carmen revealed: ‘It took all the luck. It has devastated my family. The house is empty without her. Our soul is burned inside.’

Flowers and toys have been left at the scene of the accident and specially trained officers support Carmen and Florin. A Facebook fundraiser raised more than £8,000 for the family in less than two days.

A court today heard threats and “vitriolic remarks” were made against Dyer within hours of the horrific crash — and her house was even defaced with “Rot in hell you scum” and smeared with animal feces.

The mother of one sobbed at the Llanelli Magistrates’ Court, where she was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and drink-driving.

Dyer’s attorney, Steve John, asked for bail so she can care for her four-year-old autistic son.

But prosecutor Dennis Davies said: “While she was in police custody, her front door was defaced with the words ‘Rot in Hell you scum’, with a permanent marker.

“That was brought to the attention of the police, along with the fact that dog feces had been smeared on the house.”

The court heard that threats against Davies had been posted on a police Facebook page requesting information about the crash.

Chairman Alison Evans told Dyer: “This is a desperately sad situation and a life-changing situation for the little child and for you. You can’t turn back the clock – you made a big mistake, I think you know that.

“We can see how repentant you are, but justice must be done.

“The local community has reacted strongly to this incident, especially offensive statements about your home when you were not on the property.

“There are good reasons for detaining you – it is necessary for your own protection.”

Dyer, a single mother and full-time carer of her son, was remanded to Swansea Crown Court next month.

A small crowd outside the court shouted swear words at Dyer and police attended to avoid serious disturbance.

The court was told Dyer had drowned her grief in a pub in Llanelli on the sixth anniversary of her father’s death, before going to retrieve her mobile phone that she had left at her relative’s house.

Dyer’s blue BMW was collided with a blue Opel Vectra carrying the six-month-old baby named in court as Eva Maria. Magistrates heard Dyer leave the scene of the accident, but waited nearby for the police to arrive.

An eyewitness who was out of court claimed, “All you heard was the screams of the mother.

“One of my friends took the baby out of the car, but you could tell it was already too late.

“Everyone is distraught – how could it happen in a 20mph speed limit. People are angry and want justice for the innocent baby who had her whole life ahead of her.”

A neighbor who stormed out of his house said: ‘A car hit the other way, and they went into a lamppost – I heard the impact.

“Everyone on the scene was in tears because they knew the little baby had died.”

Wales Senedd member for Llanelli Lee Waters said: ‘This is so terribly sad. I know the community will rally around the family, but nothing can comfort them with this terrible loss.”

“I’m sure all our thoughts are with those closest to the little girl and her family.”
