Next WWDC 2025We had a flurry of Apple Announcements this week, including the news that MacOS Tahoe 26 will be the latest version To support Intel Macs – And immediately at the point, Steam finally delivered a version of the client who runs native on Apple Silicon.
Check in the release -notes for the latter Beta of the steam client (Via PC Gamer), And you will see the most important news that “Steam Client and Steam Helper apps are now being performed native on Apple Silicon” included in the update data.
So far, steam for macOS has always been encrypted for x86 Intel chipsets, instead of the ARM Chips developed by Apple Self-What has led Macs to work on M-series the customer via the Rosetta 2 compatibility layer that Apple offers.
In addition to dropping Intel Chipset support, so that older Macs are left on macOS 26, next year’s macOS 27 is the latest version that Rosetta 2 supports, Apple announced on WWDC 2025. That means that developers must expand arm -coded versions of their applications.
How you can try it now
For those of us without interest in chipset architecture or compatibility layers, this simply means that steam games have to work more efficiently and more smoothly on macOS – think of faster frames and a better battery life, in general.
You must also find that the Steam client is launched faster and is more responsive when it is used on Macs. A large part of it is thanks to the chromium -based user interface that works native on arm, instead of having to be translated.
If you want to try the beta version now, you can do – the usual reserved with beta software applies here, because you might notice more bugs than normal, and some of your games can be glitchy, but any problems must be ironed over time.
Choose from the Steam app on your Mac Steam> Preferences> InterfaceThen click on the No beta chosen follow -up choice menu to the right of the Beta participation of the customer Rule: You can then select Steam Beta -update To become a member of the beta.
