Maharashtra polls: Congress expels Jayashree Patil for six years for standing as independent candidate in Sangli
NEW DELHI: The Congress Party on Saturday took disciplinary action against Jayashree Patil by expelling her for six years for contesting as an independent candidate against the party’s official candidate in Sangli constituency in Maharashtra.
The party issued an official statement noting, “In the 2024 Maharashtra State Assembly elections, while the official candidate of the Congress Party is contesting in the Sangli Assembly constituency 282, Patil contested as an independent candidate .”

This act is against party discipline and based on the directives of state president Nana Patole, Jayashree has been suspended for the next six years, the statement said.
Earlier last Thursday, the Maharashtra Congress suspended eight rebel members for a period of six years over their decision to contest elections independently, including Jayashree Patil.
The ousted leaders include Rajendra Mulak from Ramtek, Kamal Vyavhare from Kasba Peth, Purshottam Hazare from Nagpur East, Aba Bagul from Parvati, Shamkant Saner from Sindkheda, Manish Anand from Shivaji Nagar (Pune) and Amol Deshmukh from Savner.
