Maharashtra U-turn and give Rs 10 crore to Waqf board
MUMBAI/SAMBHAJINAGAR: The Maharashtra government on Friday withdrew its order granting Rs 10 crore for functioning and strengthening of the Maharashtra State Board of Waqfwith Devendra Fadnavis intervening and promising an inquiry into the legality and timing of the order once the new government was formed. State CS Sujata Saunik has revoked the order, report Clara Lewis & Mohammed Akhef.
BJP spokesperson Keshav Upadhye was among the first to raise a red flag. In a post on social media, he said, “Currently there is an interim government in Maharashtra, and it does not have the authority to take any policy decision.”
Late in the afternoon, Fadnavis posted on social media that it was not appropriate for the government to issue a government resolution disbursing money to the Waqf Board when there is an interim government, and the Chief Secretary immediately withdrew it. “Once the new government is formed, this will be investigated,” he said.
