According to police, the arrested person, identified as Sarover Singh alias Lovely, is from Nabha and was recently released from jail. During his time in prison he is said to have built ties with hardened criminals, which may have influenced his later involvement in criminal activities.
The arrest on Monday took place on the Patiala-Sangrur bypass, where Sarover Singh resisted arrest by firing three shots at the police team. In response, the officers retaliated with five rounds, wounding Sarover Singh. He was rushed to Rajindra Government Hospital for medical treatment.
Police have recovered a .32 bore pistol, three cartridges and the stolen Thar jeep from Sarover Singh’s possession. Charges have been registered against him under sections 109, 132, 221 of the BNS, 25 subsection (6) and (7) of the Arms Act at Passiana police station in Patiala.
Authorities have revealed that Sarover Singh has a significant criminal history, with three cases registered against him in Sangrur, two in Khanna and one in Nabha. These cases involve violations such as dacoity, intervention and violations of the excise law.
While the main suspect has been arrested, police said efforts are on to locate and arrest the remaining accomplices involved in the Thar jeep loot case.
