Mallikarjun Kharge dissolves the state unit in Congress-ruled Himachal Pradesh
NEW DELHI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday dissolved the entire Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) unit in Himanchal Pradesh along with its district and block units with immediate effect.
This decision is part of the party’s plan to restructure its Himachal Pradesh unit. Notably, this is the first major change in the PCC since the Congress took over power in the hill state.
Pratibha Singhthe outgoing Himachal Pradesh Congress president, has already joined the party Working Committee of Congress (CWC), the party’s highest decision-making body. Singh, wife of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, was appointed state Congress chief in 2022.
In an official communication, AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal confirmed the decision and said, “The Congress President has approved the proposal to dissolve the entire state unit of the PCC along with the district presidents and block congress committees of the PCC. Himachal Pradesh Congress Committeewith immediate effect.”

Factionalism is a persistent problem within the Himachal Congress. These divisions were evident during the Rajya Sabha elections in February, when Congress candidate Abhishek Singhvi lost to BJP’s Harsh Mahajan after several Congress MLAs defected and voted against each other, highlighting the internal discord within the party.
