Man falls to his death after opening the door of a moving bus to spit 'paan' in UP
NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old man fell dead on Saturday after he allegedly opened the door of a moving Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus to spit ‘paan’ at the Purvanchal highway.
News agency PTI reported that the incident took place around 10.30 am near the 93-km milestone of the highway while the bus was on its way from Azamgarh to Lucknow.
According to police, the victim, identified as Ram Jiavan of Chinhat, Lucknow, lost his balance after opening the bus door near Bihi village in Baldirai police station area. While the bus was moving, Jiavan fell on the road, causing fatal injuries.
“The passenger opened the door to spit ‘paan’ and lost his balance,” a police official confirmed.
The bus driver immediately stopped the vehicle and officials of the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), along with police, were informed. Baldirai Station House Officer (SHO) Dheeraj Kumar said UPEIDA personnel transported Jiavan to a nearby community health center but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Jiavan’s wife, Savitri, was also on board the bus at the time of the accident.
The body was sent for examination and the bus was taken to the police station for further investigation.
