Fans criticized Piers Morgan after he had called Erik ten Hag to be fired because he had dropped Cristiano Ronaldo against Liverpool on Monday evening.
The 37-year-old Portuguese star had to settle for a place on the bench at Old Trafford, with the youngster Anthony Elanga taking his place in the team before taking the field with just four minutes to go.
When the team news came out, Morgan was furious and called the decision ‘one of the stupidest’, in which he predicted that United would be ‘hammered’.

He tweeted: ‘Benching @cristiano for Elanga against Liverpool, even according to the current terrible Manchester United standards, is one of the stupidest decisions in football history.
“Ten Hag should be fired for this alone if they are beaten tonight .. Or should I say when they are beaten.”
United continued by gaining their first victory of the season with a 2-1 victory over Jurgen Klopp to lift itself to 14th place in the table.

Elanga got the assist for Jadon Sancho’s 16th minute opener and Marcus Rashford added a second early in the second half before Mohamed Salah took one back for the visitors late in the day.
And fans were quick to return to Morgan’s tweet earlier in the evening, some of them called him to apologize at Ten Hag.

Another fan questioned Morgan’s football knowledge, saying, “This man proves time and again that he knows nothing about football.”
