‘Hard to judge’

The future of Marcus Rashford in Old Trafford – or even at Aston Villa – is ‘difficult to assess’ according to a Premier League legend.

Alan Shearer thinks that there are too many variables in the game to be sure about where Rashford’s career is after this season.

He said to Betfair: “The seasonal injury from Marcus Rashford is a big blow for him because he would go back with Aston Villa to somewhere near his best. It is also an important blow to villa because they now have a less option when they still try to qualify for the Champions League of the next season.

“Regarding the future of Rashford, we don’t know what Manchester United of Marcus thinks. We also don’t know how much villa can spend in terms of a transfer costs and his contract. All those things are difficult to weigh and, unless you are in United of Villa, it is difficult to judge.

“There is no doubt that his power is still there and Unai Emery has received it since he has arrived on loan. But it is all about what Marcus wants and what United decides, is suitable for them.

“There are many strangers about his future, but there is no doubt that the asset of the player is still there.”

Happy decision?

Aston Villa will be on their hunt for Porto -striker Samu Aghowa -because they look unlikely to activate the £ 40 million buy option of Marcus Rashford.

Villa sent a explorer to Portugal on Friday for a different view of Aghowa, who scored twice in a 3-1 win over Multi-Irection.

The Spain Under-21 International brought Porto Vooruit in the second half with a coolness fine before he brought his seasonal task to 24 goals with a tidy near-post finish to seal the points.

Villa watches Aghowa – formerly known as Samu Omorodion – since he came to Porto from Atletico Madrid last summer.

In contrast to Villa, Porto can no longer be eligible for next season’s Champions League, because the gap to the top two is too large and they may have trouble resisting offers of more than £ 50 million for Aghowa.

Boss Unai Emery keeps its options open over the number nine role in Villa Park for next season.
