Man wanted in over 50 cases shot during UP encounter
meerUT: A man wanted in connection with more than 50 criminal cases, including murder and extortion, was murdered in a encounter police early Sunday morning.
Rajesh Kumar (30) was a resident of Sihlinagar, Anupshahr, and had a bounty of Rs 1.5 lakh. SSP Shlok Kumar said Kumar, who was riding a motorcycle, opened fire at the police team when police signaled him to stop. “In retaliation, the officers fired back, wounding Kumar. Kumar was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Station constable and a constable were also injured in the incident,” the SSP said.
Kumar had been on the run for months and regularly changed hideouts to avoid arrest. His body has been sent to the police for post-mortem examination.
In another incident on Sunday in Khurja in Bulandshahrtwo men – accused of killing an army man, Gaurav Singh (25), on October 9 in Vimla Nagar area – were arrested following a shootout. The two arrested men have been identified as Babulal and Golu Singh. While being rushed to hospital, the army man named Babulal as one of the attackers before he succumbed to bullet injuries.
