Mariah Carey reveals her mother and sister both died on the same day in shocking statement: ‘My heart is broken’
Mariah Carey has revealed that her mother and sister died on the same day.
In a heartbreaking statement, the singer announced that her mother Patricia, 87, and sister Alison, 63, passed away over the weekend.
She told People: “I am heartbroken that I lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away. I appreciate everyone’s love, support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.
There was no further information about the cause of death of Patricia and Alison.

Patricia was married to Mariah’s father, Alfred Roy Carey, until the future superstar was three years old. Mariah’s father died in 2002 at the age of 72.
Alison has had a number of personal issues in her life, including homelessness, and has been estranged from her superstar brother for several years. She was a recovering drug addict and was HIV positive.
In 2016, her dying sister made an impassioned plea to her famous brother in DailyMail.com, begging her to heal the rift between them and save her life. She said: ‘Mariah, I love you, I need your help so badly.’
Just months after doctors brought her back from the brink of death, recovering drug addict Alison Carey, who was also HIV-positive, is a broken woman.
She was in desperate need of financial support as she fought her way back to health after a devastating home invasion left her brain damaged and seriously ill, and she had been in and out of hospital.
Besides Mariah and Alison, Patricia and Roy also had a son, Morgan.
Patricia trained at Julliard and was an opera singer and vocal coach.
Mariah had a complicated relationship with her mother and sister. She spoke candidly about her bond with her mother in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning Of Mariah Carey.
“Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It’s never just been black and white — it’s been a whole rainbow of emotions,” she explained.
She said their relationship was a “twisting cord of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment.”
The book was still dedicated to Patricia: “And to Pat, my mother, who, despite everything, I believe, did her best,” the singer wrote in the dedication.
“I will always love you as much as I can.”
