As one of the most famous father-en-son duos in the country, it must be very difficult for Martin and Roman Kemp to leave their house without encountering a fan.
But the Spandau Ballet star, 63 and Omroep, 32, were recently pleasantly surprised when they spent a week on board NCL’s Norwegian Encore, sailing around the Virgin Islands – and were not recognized once.
“Nobody cared about him!” Roman laughs in an exclusive interview with MailOnline. “I am not recognized, but it was great for my father.
‘Forever, family holidays for us, yes, we would have a great time at the swimming pool and all that stuff, but wherever we stayed, we should always be in a villa or something, and as soon as we asked to go into the city, my father would not want it, or if he did, he should have his cap.
“But on this vacation I have never seen my father with his head up!”
Martin adds: ‘It was great. It was like I had a week off. ‘
Martin and Roman were on the cruise with Martin’s wife and Roman’s mother Shirlie Kemp – and it was the first ‘real family vacation’ they had since they went to Ibiza together more than 15 years ago.
And although it was perhaps discouraging to spend a week with his parents for the first time as an adult, Roman says that he ‘absolutely loved it’ – because there was something for each of the 3,958 passengers of the Norwegian Encore.

Martin Kemp, 63, and Roman Kemp, 32, were recently pleasantly surprised when they spent a week on board NCL’s Norwegian Encore, sailing around the virgin islands – and were not even recognized
He tells us: ‘The boat is just amazingly solid and you can have three or four different holidays in one.
‘We had a great time, because it was the Super Bowl when we were there, and we were just in a huge cinema with a lot of Americans, who just loved it. It was really good.
‘And if you want that party holiday like that, there is on the boat, but there is also the cooled, with the sun that lies because of the polar vibes, which we have often done.
‘Then you have the right families with little ones, and they can have a great time.
‘So I think that is the most surprising when you go on a ship like that, actually how much space there is.
“It sounds like many people who will go on it, but there is something for everyone, which is really fun.”
Martin adds: ‘There was so much to do on that boat, on the ship, it was so on, even to the point that went on the roof!
“They are really separate, with the amount of restaurants and cinemas and various things you could do on it, which I really enjoyed.”

When it comes to food, the Norwegian encore has many different specialist restaurants, of which Roman said it was ‘fantastic’.
But Martin and Shirlie left Roman and enjoyed quite a few date nights in the local, all-inclusive, 24-hour buffet of the ship.
“I have been to a few cruises in the past and the food on this was absolutely further,” he says. “Even the food in the 24-hour buffet is absolutely first-class, I and Shirlie have often eaten there.”
Apart from the enormous range of entertainment of the ship, Roman and Martin held their NCL trip because they could check so many destinations of their bucket frames.
Roman explains: “It sounds morbid, but I have always had this thing in my head that when it comes to the end, I want to zoom out and go:” I actually tried to see as much as I could “.
‘And I think the luxury you have with a cruise is that you don’t have to have a vacation where you don’t have to unpack and take it again to go to new places, and every time you wake up in the morning, look outside and you are on a beautiful new island or a beautiful new part of the world and able to step outside and see that place. ‘
And one of the British Virgin Islands that they visited on their journey blew away.
“It looked like a screensaver,” he says. ‘It is very rare that you look at something in life and go:’ Is what I really look at? “And that’s it.

The Kemps were also allowed to do many different excursions during their vacation, which they ‘really enjoyed’. A favorite for the family was for the Dominican Republic
‘The water was stupid blue and you have lunch at this place. It was a real privilege to see some of these places and to be there with my family. ‘
The Kemps were also allowed to do many different excursions during their vacation, which they ‘really enjoyed’.
A favorite for the family was for the Dominican Republic, where they spent a day recreating Peter Andre’s mysterious girl music video in the waterfalls, from waterfalls in rockpools and even zip-lining.
“Seeing my father in armor was weird!” Roman laughs.
Martin adds: “It was something that I would usually never do, but because it was there, and we were on vacation, and I was at Ro and Ro asked me to come, I felt that I couldn’t go back, so I was going to do it, and it was absolutely fantastic!”
Roman continues: ‘The thing is that my father has always been refurbished for everything, and is secretly competitive with me, to the point that when we go to a restaurant together, and I order a steak, he also has to order a steak – although he does not eat red meat!
‘But to be honest, on this one, it really made it really fun, because I pushed it, and he pushed me, and we were zipper and jumped in the rocks from 20 feet plus, of this waterfall.
“It was really fun. But for my mother I think she was caught in the middle of me and my father who could do the most dangerous thing. There were many funny moments we had. I think that’s great.

“Family Holidays are great,” Martin ends. “We didn’t do enough. It was a real learning curve for me, because I forgot how much a binding experience they are ‘
‘I had the best education that everyone can ask, and the vacation we went through as children were phenomenal, but we have such nice memories of vacations as a family. And I think it could be fun again to be able to do it again, after such a long time, really fun. ‘
And Martin is just as certain that the Kemps will leave it 15 years before their next family vacation.
“Family Holidays are great,” he ends. “We didn’t do enough. It was a real learning curve for me, because I forgot how much a binding experience they are.
“Shared experiences are so binding, whether you are going with your friends or your friends, or you go with your family, and they bring you closer together.”
