Matt Lauer’s daughter Romy, 20, rammed a fence in the Hamptons over the long weekend and fled the scene — but left behind a key piece of evidence, officers say
The daughter of disgraced NBC anchor Matt Lauer crashed her car into a fence and a sign and tried to flee, leaving her license plate behind, according to police.
Romy Lauer, 20, was driving the Jeep Wrangler in the Hamptons during an outing with friends over the Fourth of July weekend.
They spent part of the holidays partying at Kissaki Sushi in Water Mill, as seen in her TikTok video, but by 4 a.m. on July 5, she was already on her way to Southampton.
A resident of North Sea Mecox Road was woken up by a loud bang and called 911 because he feared someone had been seriously injured in the crash.

By the time local police arrived, they found a fence and a knocked-down sign, but no sign of a vehicle — other than the license plate, a source told the New York Post.
Romy was served with a summons for leaving the scene of an accident and is represented by her top lawyer Edward Burke, who defended her father.
Romy studies finance at the University of Miami, where she met her boyfriend of a year, Spanish tennis player Antonio Pratt.
It seems she spends a lot of time attending fancy parties and going on lavish vacations with her equally privileged friends.

Lauer has been largely in hiding on his New Zealand farm since his firing from the Today Show amid multiple allegations of sexual abuse.
In 2019, he appeared on Romy’s TikTok with some toe-curling dance moves and took her to the Hamptons for her 18th birthday on October 2, 2021.

There was no sign of her mother, Lauer’s ex-wife, Dutch model Annette Roque, who left him once the allegations of sexual abuse emerged.
Roque filed for divorce in 2006 while pregnant with their third child, Thijs, alleging “mental abuse, extreme mental and emotional distress, humiliation, torment and fear.”
Shortly after, they reconciled and it wasn’t until September 7, 2019 that they finally divorced.

Lauer co-hosted Today from 1997 to 2017, under contract until the end of 2018 at a salary of $20 million a year, when he was fired for cause.
Chairman Andrew Lack said at the time that “while this is the first complaint about his conduct in his more than 20 years at NBC News, we were also given reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.”
Other women soon came forward with complaints of sexual harassment, rape, and relationships they only consented to out of fear. One woman said he sexually assaulted her in his office in 2001.
“Some of what has been said about me is untrue or inaccurate, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed,” Lauer said in a statement apologizing.
Former NBC producer Brooke Nevils alleged that Lauer anally raped her while the two were working on coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. She detailed her allegation in Ronan Farrow’s 2019 book Catch and Kill.
Nevils said she had an affair with Lauer afterward, but only did so because she knew he would ruin her career if she refused.

Lauer admitted to having an affair with Nevils, but claimed that everything that happened between them was consensual.
He claimed that Nevils only accused him because she was angry that he had ended the affair by ignoring her.
After Lauer was fired, more women came forward with allegations of non-consensual sex and abusive relationships.
“I fully acknowledge that I acted inappropriately as a husband, father and executive at NBC,” Lauer said of the various allegations.
“However, I want to make it clear that any allegations or reports of coercive, aggressive or abusive actions on my part at any time are absolutely false.”
