Mercy Masika was born on April 26, 1983 in Machakos, Kenya. Due to the nature of her parents’ jobs, which required them to move frequently, she grew up and attended school in different districts of Kenya. However, the singer completed her education in Machakos after the family eventually relocated there. Before attending Machakos Primary, she studied at Kamuthatha Girls Primary School in Embu. After a while, she moved to Machakos’ Masi Township and completed her O-levels at Machakos High School. Mercy Masika completed her secondary education at Daystar University, where she obtained a degree in teaching. Aside from working on her sixth studio album, she is currently a master’s student at the same university, studying community development. Professional life and career
Mercy Masika comes from a musical family. She started singing when she was a toddler and later featured in KBC’s “Joy Bringers” program. This was thanks to Mercy Masika, her mother, who was then employed by ‘Yours, Rise and Shine’, another KBC program. Joy Bringers gave Mercy Masika and her sisters the opportunity to perform. While still in primary school, Masika asked her mother and Helen Matawali for help in making her debut album, “Nobody Like Jesus” in 1995. Masika led worship at Machakos High School while she was a student there. She started making changes in her life and released her second album, “Roses Will Bloom Again,” in Form 2. Mercy then went to Daystar University where she befriended Robert Kimanzi, a legendary music producer. Together with him, Masika recorded her fourth album, “Vendo Vaku.”
With the success of her song “Wendo Waku,” Mercy Masika shot to fame and became a household name in the gospel community of Kenya. Over the years, Mercy has released more songs and three albums. She also leads worship at her church, JCC Kenya. Masika is also the National Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency in Kenya.
