Meta Announces New AI Features for Ray-Ban Smart Glasses

Meta Platforms announced several notable updates to its Ray-Ban Meta Glasses during its Connect event on Wednesday. One of the most notable additions is a video feature that lets the wearer get real-time information about landmarks and other places they see. The company has also made it easier to have conversations with Meta AI, its artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, with new wake-up commands, among other new features.

In a blog afterthe company announced that Ray-Ban Meta Glasses now support wake-up via the “Hey Meta” command, while also allowing users to ask follow-up questions without having to repeat them again. The update also removes the need for the “look and” command, which was previously used in general Q&A conversations or to identify what they were looking at.

They can also set reminders via voice commands. Meta says that their glasses can now remember things. For example, it will remember where the user parked their vehicle at the airport.

The company is also adding video capabilities to Ray-Ban Meta Glasses. While exploring locations, users can now ask the smart glasses to identify landmarks or famous sites in real time, essentially acting as a virtual tour guide. While grocery shopping, they can ask Ray-Ban Meta Glasses to make cooking suggestions based on the ingredients they’re looking at.

Meta is beefing up its partnerships with Spotify and Amazon Music, while also announcing new ones with Audible and iHeart. Users can ask the glasses to search for songs and provide additional information.

Special edition glasses

In addition to the software updates, a new special edition of the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses has also been announced. The new option is called Shiny Transparent. As the name suggests, they feature a transparent design that shows off some of the internal components. These glasses come with EssilorLuxottica’s new range of UltraTransitions GEN S lenses. They come in Clear to Sapphire Transitions lens color options.

However, the new glasses are available only in the standard size and cost $429 (approximately Rs. 36,000).
