Meta watch out! These new AI Smart glasses are better than my Ray bans in almost all ways, but I know I will never have a few

- Xiaomi announced AI Smart glasses
- They share many similarities with Meta’s Ray bans, even priced in the same way
- Xiaomi’s specifications have a number of unique characteristics, such as electrochromic dimming
Chinese Tech brand Xiaomi is not on the point Android XR” MetaAnd others race ahead in the Smart Glasses World, because it just announced his AI glasses – and although they are very similar to the meta specifications, they offer a few upgrades, including one that I have begged meta to add since the launch.
Word of warning, however, although they cost about as many as the specifications of Meta, many of us who read this will not hook a few, because it now seems as if they will be exclusive to Xiaomi’s home grass: China.
They are very similar to the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses I use regularly. They offer a stylish frame in a handful of color options that are thicker than normal but still fairly tight.
They have similar hardware, such as a 12MP camera that apparently can capture 2K video on 30 fps, built-in microphones for capturing what you say, and opening open earluid speakers for audio offices.
You can also use the pair of hands-free, ai-assistant to take photos for you or to answer your questions and to answer again, just like the specifications of Meta, these Xiaomi glasses make an image that is used as a context for your questions such as “Identify this flower.”
But immediately there are some important differences.
At the end of one armYou can find a USB-C port with which you can charge the AI glasses while wearing them-the specifications of meta loading only in their case.
They also offer a larger battery, with Xiaomi promising “8.6 hours” or about eight hours, 36 minutes of use between costs.
You can also use the glasses for paying suppliers if they offer the possibility to pay by scanning a QR code. It may not be something that you often see, but it is a common payment method in China.
However, it is crucial that these glasses offer electrochrome dimming. This is the function that I think is coolest.
Enjoy the shades
For smart glasses to be a success, they must be something that you can always wear.
Imagine that your phone only worked in certain weather.
In terms of technology you can use smart glasses in all the same circumstances, but the lenses you have will decide how practical that is.
Clear lenses are perfect for more desperate days, while shaded lenses are much more suitable for bright sunny conditions, but a non-starter for darker weather or indoor use.
Because I exchange my meta-jet bans, which were always shaded, for a few with transition lenses, I use them much more often because I can trust a wider range of weather conditions.
Electrochromic dimming offers the same usability, but instead of being determined by the weather, the smart glasses of Xiaomi can be manually darkened or clarified by sliding your finger along their arm.
In many ways it is about as useful as transition lenses, but for me wins electrochrome dimming because you have more personal control over the shade, so that you can change your vision as desired.
Although it is a narrow race, especially because the functions want to cost about the same.
While the basic Xiaomi glasses 1999 cost ¥-comparable with the $ 299 / £ 299 / AU $ 449, you pay no electrochromic dimming for the Base Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses-Ze. The cheapest pair with the function is 2699 ¥, which is about the same price as the $ 379 / £ 379 / AU $ 539 transition lens equipped witha Ray-Bans.
So for now I stay with my smart lens smart lens, but I will look at this space as a color -changing lens technology such an essential function, it must be absorbed with even the basic model – although both important options are inescapably pricey.
