NEW DELHI: Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday announced a new initiative aimed at providing essential goods to the people of conflict-torn Manipur at affordable prices. Shah said the Union government will make Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandars accessible to citizens from September 17.
Shah said about X: “In line with the commitment of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, MHA is launching an initiative to provide goods to the people of Manipur at reasonable prices. From 17th September 2024, Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandars will be open for common people.”

The government is also going to expand its network by opening 16 new canteens in the state, including eight new Bhandars in the valley and eight in the hills.
“In addition to the existing 21 Bhandars, 16 new ones will be opened. Of the 16 new centres, eight will be in the valley and the remaining eight will be in the hills,” Shah added.
Meanwhile, the government has lifted the temporary suspension of internet services in the territorial jurisdiction of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching districts.
“The State Government has decided to lift all forms of internet blockade in the State of Manipur imposed in good faith as a preventive measure in the public interest,” an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs said.
The temporary suspension of internet services in 5 districts was implemented from 3 pm on September 10 due to student protests demanding the removal of the DGP and the security advisor over their alleged failure to handle militant attacks. The protests led to clashes with security forces, resulting in injuries to over 80 persons, including students and police personnel.
The decision also calls on all Internet users to refrain from activities that could lead to situations in the future that would justify the suspension of Internet services.
