Mi Band 8 scheduled to launch on this date; design announced

Xiaomi will be launching the much-awaited Xiaomi 13 Ultra smartphone on April 18. The upcoming handset is expected to feature Leica cameras with custom Summicron lenses and Sony IMX989 and Sony IMX858 sensors. Now, the Beijing-based company has confirmed that it will also be launching the Mi Band 8, the successor to the fitness tracking device Mi Band 7, on the same date. The new smart wearable will be launched with certain redesigns and is also expected to come with some functional improvements over its predecessor.

The Xiaomi China website confirms the upcoming launch of the smart wearable device Mi Band 8. It is seen in a promotional image with a pill-shaped watch face with an AMOLED display. Instead of wrap-around bands as seen on previous models, the Mi Band 8’s band attaches to the wearable device on both sides.

Lei Jun, the company’s co-founder and CEO, confirmed via his Weibo account account that the upcoming Mi Band 8 can be worn in multiple ways, including as a necklace.

a report Android Authority notes that the Mi Band 8 will almost certainly offer the same basic activity tracking features as the Mi Band 7. Continuous blood oxygen monitoring and low SpO2 alarms, all-day heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and stress monitoring should all be included in the wearable’s fitness tracking capabilities, the report says.

It adds that the company may also launch a Pro model of the Mi Band 8. The standard model is likely to offer GPS connectivity through a tethered phone while the Pro model, which acts as a successor to the Mi Band 7 Pro, is likely to feature in-built GPS. The Chinese variant of the alleged fitness tracker is likely to be different from the global variants, the report adds.

The Xiaomi Mi Band 7, available in Black, Blue, Green, Orange, Pink and White colours, is priced at CNY 249 (approximately Rs. 2,900) for the non-NFC variant, while the NFC version is available for CNY 299 (approximately Rs. 3,500). It features a 1.62-inch AMOLED Always-On display with 192×490 pixels resolution, 500 nits peak brightness and 326 ppi pixel density. The fitness band also offers health tracking including SpO2 monitor alongside heart rate sensor, female health tracking and sleep monitoring with 120 additional sports modes.
