Mining scam: SIT chief goes to police over HD Kumaraswamy's 'threats'
BENGALURU: IPS officer M Chandrasekhar, head of the Lokayukta SIT probe into a 2007 investigation mining scams in the state, filed a formal complaint with the Bengaluru police, accusing Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy and his son Nikhil of trying intimidate him and hinder the probe.
Chandrasekhar, an ADGP, filed a complaint accusing Kumaraswamy of making verbal threats against him and his family during two press conferences, on September 28 and 29. He also accused Nikhil of false accusations of bribery against him.
Responding to the complaint, Kumaraswamy said, “When did I threaten him? I have spoken to the media and expressed my concerns about a number of issues. He filed a complaint; we will face it in court.”
It was alleged that before resigning as CM, Kumaraswamy had granted Sandura’s Sri Sai Venkateshwara Minerals a 550-acre mining lease in Ballari despite state trade and industry officials advising him against it. SIT has submitted a report to the governor seeking permission to prosecute Kumaraswamy.
