Mobile internet ban extended till December 5 in nine districts of Manipur
IMPHAL: The Manipur government on Tuesday extended the suspension of mobile internet in nine districts of the state by two days till December 5. A Home Ministry order said the suspension has been extended in Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Bishnupur and Thoubal , Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Pherzawl and Jiribam till 5.15 pm on December 5.
“After assessing the prevailing law and order situation and its correlation with the overall operation of internet services, the state government has decided to continue the suspension of mobile internet and mobile data services, including VSATs and VPN services,” the report said.
Internet services have been temporarily suspended since November 16 after violence broke out in the state following the recovery of the bodies of three women and three children from the Jiri and Barak rivers in Manipur and Assam respectively.
The Manipur government had on November 19 conditionally lifted the suspension of broadband services (ILL and FTTH) considering the hardships faced by common people, healthcare institutions, educational institutions and other offices.
