Caity Phelan, 23, was devastated when her partner Dayne, 25, was locked up 700km away for seven months after making a ‘bad decision’.

But the young eyelash technician from Mackay, Queensland, stood by her partner and made their relationship work — and now they’re stronger than ever.

The couple had only been dating for seven months when the incident occurred, leaving Caity completely “crushed.”

“As his partner, I naturally want to support him through all the obstacles in life. I have stayed with him because I want to contribute to help him in his rehabilitation to become a better person,” she said. news.com.au.

During his time behind bars, Caity could only see Dayne once or twice a month and would drive 16 hours there and back for just a one-hour visit.

The pair would also have virtual conversations to catch up and see each other.

“It’s very true when they say you don’t know what you have until it’s gone. It has enabled us to express our thoughts better because he has all the time in the world to think there,” Caity said.

At the time, she was also pressured by others to leave Dayne, but she didn’t give it a second thought.

She added that the whole experience opened their eyes to show how much they love each other.
