The Duchess of Thrift explained to her TikTok page about how difficult it can be to drag yourself out of those warm sheets during the colder periods.

She shared a video about it and wrote: “My best tips for a cold morning without heating.”

Her first piece of advice was to buy an electric blanket and put it in your bed.

Then set your alarm clock half an hour earlier than necessary so that you can ‘stay in bed and turn your electric blanket on at its highest setting’.

She added that after half an hour you’ll be “so warm you’ll want to jump out of bed.”

While you’re in bed, she suggests putting an Oodie or sweater under the covers to warm up, so you can throw on something warm when you wake up.

She even advises throwing your clothes in bed so they get warm too.

This way, after you have had your morning cup of tea and have quickly gone to the toilet, you can dress nice and warmly.

For extra warmth, she recommends using a small “warmer” for five minutes right after dressing.

And for those working from home, the Duchess of Thrift has a top tip for staying warm.

The Duchess of Thrift also recommends placing a blanket on your lap for extra coziness.

She said the blanket she uses “costs about a penny and a half an hour to use,” making it an inexpensive way to stay warm.

Electric blanket

Someone joked: “I would have fallen asleep right away with that electric blanket.”

Another agreed, saying, “That electric blanket would put me right back to sleep.”

When someone asked rudely: “Why can’t you afford heating?” she explained: “It costs £1.50 an hour. Add to that washing, cooking and drying clothes for the family, and I’d be spending a fortune on energy.”

5 Ways to Keep Your Home Warm in Winter

Real estate expert Joshua Houston shared his tips.

1. Curtains

“Windows are an easy way to bring the cold in from outside, because of the small gaps that allow air to enter. So always close your curtains when it gets dark,” he says.

This simple method creates an extra layer of warmth, because a kind of insulation is created between your window and curtain.

2. Carpets

“Your floors are another area in your home where heat can be lost and make your home feel cold,” he continued. “You may find that on cold days, your floors are not comfortable to walk on because your feet freeze.

“Put down carpets in places where there is no carpet yet. This provides an insulating layer between the bare floor and the room above.”

3. Check your insulation

Check your pipes, attic space, crawl spaces and under floorboards.

“Loose insulation is great for this and is also a cheaper form of insulation. A large bag costs around £30,” explains Joshua.

4. Keep your interior doors closed

“Households often gather in one room in the evening, usually the kitchen or living room,” Joshua said.

“This means that you only need to heat a small part of your home. By closing the doors, you keep the heat in and the cold out.”

5. Block concepts

Don’t forget to check cat flaps, chimneys and letterboxes as they can let in cold air if they are not closed properly.
