Monsoon chaos: Landslide blocks Chamoli’s Badrinath national highway, commuters run in panic. Watch | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: While the monsoon entered North IndiaUttarakhands Chamomile got into trouble again when a huge landslide blocked the Badrinath National Highway.
The Uttarakhand Police shared the video of the landslide on X and said, “The road is blocked due to the landslide from the hillock near Patalganga Langsi tunnel in Badrinath National Park Motorway.”

Even the Chamoli police continue to give updates on the road condition, saying that the road is still blocked.
Several people posted videos on their social media accounts showing a large portion of a hill falling onto the road, blocking the route.
A video just half a minute long captures a terrifying scene in Chungi Dhar in Joshimath. The footage shows people screaming in panic and running for safety. Many of them were also seen recording the act on their phones.
The landslide left scores of people and vehicles stranded on both sides of the affected road. Earlier in the day, the Badrinath highway was blocked and authorities were clearing the debris when the catastrophic event unfolded.
The heavy rainfall caused major disruption in Uttarakhand, especially in mountain areas where landslides blocked several highways.
Earlier, 21 roads were blocked in Pithoragarh due to rain-induced landslides, the district disaster relief operation centre said. Badrinath and Yamunotri highways were blocked due to landslides at Pagal Nala near Lambagad in Chamoli and at Dabarkot in Uttarkashi.
In Nainital, a red alert was issued for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in some areas, and a holiday was declared for all schools and anganwadi centres on Thursday. Several areas reported moderate to heavy rainfall.
Similar conditions in Bageshwar, due to incessant rains since Tuesday, led to closure of 24 roads and there were reports of debris entering houses. Rivers and streams were said to be overflowing, with 100 mm of rainfall in Kapkot. The Garud Ganga river was also flowing at full speed.
