When will Mr. and Mrs. Smith Season 2 on Prime Video? It’s a good question and, given the popularity of the Amazon TV show—the first season debuted in February to critical and commercial acclaim—it’s one our network of spies is trying to answer.
While we wait for them to let us know that one of Prime Video’s best shows is returning, we’re taking you through everything we know about season 2 of Mr. and Mrs. SmithThat includes our thoughts on when it’ll hit Prime Video, the potential cast, possible storylines, and the future of the spy comedy series. Mr. and Mrs. Smith The official release date for season 2 has yet to be announced. However, we do know that it is in the works, with Mr. and Mrs. Smith Season 2 will be announced in May.
“We are thrilled to announce that our groundbreaking espionage series is back for a second season, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, is in the works for our global Prime Video customers,” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, said at the time. “The success of the first season, with its incredibly modern, sexy reinvention of the original film, is a testament to the brilliant creators Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane. We’re proud to bring you a new season of unforgettable journeys and new adventures.”
With a new installment not set to be announced until mid-May, it’s highly likely that Season 2 is in early development. In short, even if scripts are currently being written, we don’t expect filming to begin until next year, meaning Mr. and Mrs. SmithThe second season is unlikely to start until early 2026.

Mr and Mrs Smith season 2 cast: probable and rumours

We don’t yet know if Season 1’s lead actors – Glover and Maya Erskine, who played the title roles – will return.
Indeed, with Season 1 ending on a nail-biting cliffhanger—are Jane and John dead? And did they manage to escape the panic room, fighting off the other Jane and John (Parker Posey and Wagner Moura) in the process?—we still don’t know for sure whether Glover and Erskine will return.
Variety claims that the pair are unlikely to return, with the outlet citing sources close to the production that this will be the case. “Season 1 stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are not expected to return to star in Season 2,” the website suggested. “Glover is still listed as a co-creator and executive producer on the series, alongside Francesca Sloane, who will return as showrunner. Additionally, Glover recently announced that he will be embarking on a world tour as Childish Gambino, starting in August and running through February 2025.”
The actors’ reps have yet to comment, but Glover hinted at a possible return for the duo in a June issue. Jimmy Kimmel Livesaying, “Who says we don’t belong? Maybe we do. Maybe we don’t,” which makes things clear as mud.

Meanwhile, in conversation with Entertainment weekly (EW) showrunner Francesca Sloane was similarly baffled by reports that Glover and Erskine would not be returning, saying: “I was just talking to Donald about it last night and we were laughing, because one of the press releases said, ‘According to our sources,’ and we were like, ‘Who are these sources? ‘ We wrote a cliffhanger, we thought long and hard about it. It was one of the first things we wrote. Why on earth — we didn’t say anything about it — but why on earth would we ruin a cliffhanger based on a headline? Maya and Donald might be dead; they might not be dead.”
Aside from that pair, Season 1 was a feast of star-studded actors, including Alexander Skarsgård, Eiza Gonzalez, John Tuturro, Paul Dano, Sarah Paulson, Parker Posey, Wagner Houra, Ron Perlman, and Michaela Coel. So Season 2 will likely see some of them reprise their roles as well, and introduce other familiar names in guest and/or cameo roles. There could be some new faces popping up as well, with Sloane saying The Hollywood Reporter that some big names have contacted you to ask if they can guest star in the second season of the series. Mr and Mrs Smith Season 2 Plot Rumors
Major spoilers ahead Mr. and Mrs. Smith season 1.
It is not surprising that Mr. and Mrs. Smith The plot of Season 2 hasn’t been sketched out yet. But given the shocking events depicted in Season 1’s explosive ending, there are a number of directions the series could go from here.
Sloane told EW: “I think there’s definitely a lot more story to tell here. And I think we definitely feel like this is a completely satisfying story if it were to stand on its own, but it definitely has more legs to go on, that’s for sure. The whole season is trying to subvert the genre and at the same time be very satisfying for people who love the movie. [2005’s Mr and Mrs Smith, starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie]and I think people who love the movie are going to be incredibly happy with the way our finale ends… I think the ending is something that a lot of people are going to talk about.”
We should brace ourselves for the fact that we may never know what happened to Glover’s John and Erskine’s Jane. Their fates are indeed uncertain after their brutal confrontation with Moura and Posey’s Second Other John and Second Other Jane (yes, that’s their name on the show), so this season could focus on a different John and Jane. Regardless of whether they survive, Sloane promised fans (via EW ) that “there will be an answer in Season 2 to what happened at the end of Season 1.”
So, what will Mr. and Mrs. Smith What would happen in Season 2 if Glover and Erskine’s characters, whose real names are Michael and Alana, didn’t return?
It could potentially build on the still-unexplained opening scene of Season 1, in which Skarsgård and González were attacked as an alternate John and Jane. What’s their problem? When did they become an alternate version of John and Jane? And what happened to lead them to that fatal shooting? It would be odd for Season 2 to be a prequel focused on this duo, so we’re guessing Sloane and co. will leave that storyline where it is: in the past.
Another option (and one that seems more likely to us) is that Season 2 will take a closer look at Posey and Moura’s John and Jane. The two actors have been fantastic additions to the series, and we’d love to see more of them. It would be really interesting to see their backstories and other secret missions play out in Season 2 – events that could even parallel the story of Season 1 – and reveal how and why they were ultimately sent after Glover and Erskine’s John and Jane.
And finally on the speculation front, perhaps a new generation of secret agents will be tasked with replacing Michael and Alana as the show’s main John and Jane. We’re not sure how the series would handle their names – could they be called Third Other John and Third Other Jane? We don’t know. It would be fascinating to see Mr. and Mrs. Smith turned into an anthology series, especially when new versions of John and Jane are introduced each season, with their own quirks and changing morals. As we said, there are plenty of options available to Amazon with the show’s direction.
Will there be another chapter after season 2 of Mr and Mrs Smith?
As with TV shows on the world’s best streaming services, no series that goes beyond the current one is ever guaranteed. Well, unless they’re a huge success with critics and/or audiences, like The Rings of Poweror even Netflix’s Squid game And Stranger Things.
Mr. and Mrs. SmithThe first season of was a hit on Prime Video – it amassed 964 million minutes of streams in its first three days on the platform (as of Term) – and it is up for multiple awards at this year’s Primetime Emmys ceremony. A third season, however, will depend on how well Mr. and Mrs. Smith Season 2 is performing, especially without Glover and Erskine involved. It may be a while before we know if it’s renewed for Season 3.
