Mum discovers 85p Mrs Hinch cleaning tip – it helps remove felt tip pen stains

But once you find your pristine furniture covered in chalk drawings, it’s probably too late and the next challenge is to scrub it clean.

And one parent knows this all too well.

She took over Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips & Tricks Facebook is asking its cleaning friends for help.

The mother, who posted anonymously, shared a photo of her white porcelain table clearly marked with black, green and blue permanent markers.

She urgently asked for advice and wrote: “Can someone help me before I throw away my dining table?

“Felt-tip pen and permanent marker versus four-year-old.”

Luckily, Mrs. Hinch’s cleaning fans were full of ideas for removing the ink stains and were quick to take to the comments to share their thoughts.

Someone asked the mother, “Have you tried hairspray or hand sanitizer?”

Surprisingly, the mother said this trick helped to make the stains disappear somewhat: “I tried hairspray, it lightened it a little, but it’s still very visible.”

Hairspray, which you can buy from Bodycare for just 85p, can be used to remove stains. Leave the formula on the affected area for a few minutes before washing the garment with detergent and warm water.

According to cleaning experts, you can use hairspray to remove ink, red wine and grease stains.

Another parent suggested using nail polish remover, £1 at Poundland.

They added: “This is how I get most of the kids’ scribbles out.”

Others also agreed that hairspray should be used, as another mom said, “Hairspray worked wonders for us when we were trying to remove markers from my daughter’s whiteboard.”

Professional cleaner

A former professional cleaner recommended using the GUMPTION Multi-Purpose Cleanser.

This is a mild abrasive paste that removes stubborn stains and dirt that can be missed with normal cleaners, leaving an incredible shine. This paste costs around £5 on eBay.

The former professional cleaner added: “You will literally use it for everything after that.

“I was able to remove the scratches that people would normally paint over.”
