Mum transforms downstairs bathroom for £7.50 with Wickes purchases and it’s ‘stunning’
A SINGLE mum has revealed how she completely renovated her downstairs bathroom for just £7.50.
By doing everything herself and searching for bargains at Wickes, the mother completely transformed her bathroom and it now looks “gorgeous.”
The mother revealed on her TikTok page called: ‘With just £10 to renovate her bathroom’ ‘Mummy budgets’ that she bought some panelling from Wickes, and also a miter box to help him saw it.
A miter box is a woodworking tool used to guide a handsaw so that precise cuts can be made before the miter box is attached to the wall.
She then got a spirit level from Poundland to make sure it was straight, and the mother got it ‘just right’.
However, the mother did indicate that she had made a mistake with the measurements, which meant she had to cut off ‘a little bit’ at the end.
The young woman then revealed that she had used some leftovers pink paint from her daughter’s room.
But when she started painting her bathroom wall, she said it was “so watery” that the paint splattered everywhere.
To thicken the mixture, the mother added cornstarch.
To apply the paint neatly around bathroom items, such as the toilet roll or towel holder, it is best to use a smaller brush.
However, she didn’t have one, so she used a small brush that is normally intended for art.
She shared her preliminary results on TikTok, which showed half of her wall painted pink and that she had also glued the railing on top.
The mother then mentioned that she had some leftover wallpaper with a green leaf print that she thought would be perfect for the top half of her wall.
She then added a gold mirror, which she had brought over from her landing, as the mother felt it ‘looked better’ there.
The mum said: “The total cost was £7.50, which was for the dado, and the rest was leftovers from other projects. I’m trying to use up things I’ve already got.”
The video has since received a lot of attention with many people taking to the comments to share their thoughts.
“Wow, that’s beautiful, you did an amazing job,” gasped one DIY fan.
“That looks amazing!” said another.
A third wrote: “I think it looks great for the price. I love the wallpaper.”
While someone else said: “What a big impact for such a small amount! Lots of good lessons taught to your child: budgeting, not giving in to consumerism, DIY, improvising with what you have and creativity!!”

Copper, pink and black are expected to be the most popular colours on British walls this year, while bathrooms are surprisingly seeing more and more terracotta shades.
The five most popular colors for 2024 are:

Copper has replaced rose gold, while blush is the new magnolia colour and Brits are also taking a bold approach by painting their walls entirely black.

Meanwhile, terracotta takes over with ‘Frosted Papaya’, a peachy orange shade dominating the bathrooms.
