My $13 mascara is a knockoff for a $30 purchase – the ingredients are 99% the same
FINDING the perfect piece of beauty jewelry that fits your budget can be quite a challenge.
One woman found the perfect imitation for her much more expensive purchase and even made an Excel spreadsheet about it.

Reddit user Raph5885 shared her makeup purchase on the social media platform.
“I came across this by chance, but the ingredients of these two mascaras are 99% the same and the first 15 [ingredients] are exactly the same, in the same order,” she said.
The more expensive mascara is from Lancôme, while the fake is from Maybelline.
She posted a photo of her Excel spreadsheet comparing all the ingredients.
“I was so excited I created an Excel spreadsheet,” she added.
HOW IT’S DONE
Several Redditors had questions and comments for the makeup fan.
“Girl, how do you do that? How do you compare the ingredients? Do you just type them all in one by one?” one asked.
“Copy and paste the entire list and then put them one by one in the correct order,” she replied.
Another praised her for her idiosyncratic approach.
“I love this. I compare ingredients all the time and see companies reusing the same formulas all the time,” one person wrote.
“L’Oréal owns both Lancôme and Maybelline, so it doesn’t surprise me at all.
“This actually helps me, but the opposite is true: I hated Sky High and now know not to waste my money on Idôle.”
Another suggested another brand to add to the spreadsheet.
“You can add the L’Oréal Panorama to that list, which is almost identical to Sky High,” they wrote.
Yet another wrote that they saw a difference between the two mascaras.
“I hated Sky High, but I love Idôle,” they said.
“I think the mascara brush is just as important as the formula, if not more important.”
Maybelline’s mascara provides glamorous volume and longer lashes.
Lancôme’s mascara promises the same, but with a lifting effect.
It also has a formula that prevents lashes from clumping.
