My 3 Techniques to Reduce ‘Pregnancy Nose’ – You Can Do Them All at Home

PREGNANCY brings about a host of changes in a woman’s body, but some women find it’s more than just a growing belly.

From bigger feet to a wider waist, there’s one area that often gets overlooked: the nose.

The so-called ‘pregnancy nose’ is no match for Angela Rosoff, who is a facial yoga instructor on the app Lovely.

Facial yoga is a technique that promotes lymphatic drainage from the neck upwards.

By giving the lymphatic fluids a boost, practitioners may experience less bloating and swelling in the body.

Rosoff revealed her three best facial exercises for slimmer skin.

HOW IT’S DONE

Rosoff’s first technique is inexpensive because it requires no tools.

Her ‘finger pressure nose compression’ simply involves using her hands to remove excess fluid.

“This technique helps reduce nasal swelling, improve blood flow and relieve sinus pressure,” she said.

Rosoff starts by cleansing her face, then applies a “light facial oil or serum.”

She then assumes the correct position by placing her index fingers on either side of her nose.

“Start with the compression,” she said. “Place your fingers at the base of your nose, near the nostrils.

I tried the viral lymphatic drainage massage and the results were incredible.

“Come together and release. Gently press the sides of your nose together and hold for two to three seconds, then release.”

She then repeats the process 10 to 15 times, ending with a gentle, circular massage around the nose.

Rosoff also recommends a rose quartz gua sha for “nose contouring.”

“This technique helps reduce swelling, improves circulation, cools the increased blood flow to the nose during pregnancy and promotes lymphatic drainage,” the doctor said.

“Rose quartz has natural cooling properties that soothe the skin and reduce inflammation, making it ideal for reducing swelling around the nose.”

What is a ‘pregnancy nose’?

According to The Cleveland Clinic, “pregnancy nose” is caused by rhinitis, also known as nasal congestion. It can cause a swollen nose. While the cause of “pregnancy nose” is uncertain, some medical experts say it may be due to hormone fluctuations that occur during pregnancy.

The technique begins with cleansing and applying an oil or serum. Then you glide the tool from the nostrils to the bridge of the nose.

She applies light pressure and repeats the process 10 to 15 times.

“Use the gua sha to massage the rest of your face for overall relaxation and lymphatic drainage,” she added in closing.

For her third method, she uses an amethyst facial roller.

“This technique helps reduce swelling, detoxify the skin, cool blood flow to the tip of the nose and improve circulation,” she said.

“Amethyst is known for its cooling and calming properties, which help reduce inflammation and have a soothing effect on the skin.”

After cleansing her face and applying a serum or facial oil, she moves the roller from the base of her nose up the sides and to the bridge of her nose, repeating this process five to ten times.

“Use the roller on other areas of your face to complete your facial massage,” she added.
