My 4 year old daughter got her OWN ears pierced – everyone says my kid is feral
A mother went viral after she caught her four-year-old daughter piercing her own earlobes.
Growing up, we all wanted to get our ears pierced as soon as possible, but one four-year-old girl decided to take matters into her own hands.
Brianna Attias, a Canadian mother of three from Toronto, took to TikTok when she found out her daughter had gotten her earlobes pierced without her parents’ knowledge.
Ear piercing should always be done by a professional. Parents are advised to always supervise their children when they are near sharp objects and jewelry.
The four-year-old was very happy with the little makeover she had undergone at home and bravely told her mother that the piercing didn’t hurt, although Brianna’s partner was rather skeptical.
Although it is not known what the petite fashion-conscious woman had her ears pierced with, it is thought to have been the sharp end of an earring she found at home.
The father, who was in shock, the videorefused to believe what had just happened and shook his head firmly.
“We are raising… What changes in such a person?”
Brianna shared photos of the DIY transformation, writing, “Our 4 year old daughter got her own ears pierced today…
“Daddy can’t believe it,” she chuckled.
The little blue-eyed girl swapped her old earring for two trendy gold hoop earrings before posing for the camera with a big smile.
Since the incident was posted on the popular platform, the internet has gone viral, with Brianna receiving a whopping 13.7 million views in less than a week.
Like her father, millions of social media users were stunned – not only by her bravery, but also by the “flawless” placement of the holes.
Brianna and her husband are being warned, one user wrote: ”That girl is fearless, watch out.”
Another joked: “Dad is literally searching Google for coping strategies.”
A third admired the four-year-old, writing: “She did both even though she felt the pain the first time. That’s dedication!”
“I would be terrified,” said another of the “wild” girl’s antics.
Different Parenting Styles Explained
Four recognized parenting styles are explained below:
Authoritarian parenting
What some would describe as ‘regimental’ or ‘strict parenting’.
Parents with this style emphasize strict rules, obedience, and discipline.
Authoritarian parents take over decision-making power and rarely allow their children to have a say.
When it comes to rules, you believe that it’s “my way or the highway.”
Permissive parenting
Often referred to as ‘soft parenting’ or ‘yes moms/dads’.
Permissive parents are indulgent and only intervene when there is a serious problem.
They are quite forgiving and have a ‘kids will be kids’ attitude.
They often act more like friends than authority figures.
Authoritarian parenting
Authoritarian parents give their children rules and boundaries, but they also give them the freedom to make their own decisions.
With an authoritarian parenting style, parents acknowledge their children’s feelings, but also make it clear that adults are ultimately in charge.
They use positive reinforcement techniques, such as praise and reward systems, rather than harsh punishment.
Neglectful or uninvolved parenting
Neglectful parents essentially ignore their children, who receive little guidance, care, and parental attention.
They don’t set rules or expectations and generally have little knowledge about what their children are doing.
Uninvolved parents expect children to raise themselves. They do not spend much time or energy on meeting children’s basic needs.
Uninvolved parents can be neglectful, but it is not always intentional. For example, a parent with mental health issues or substance abuse may not consistently care for a child’s physical or emotional needs.
Age limit for piercings
According to YouGov, ”52% support an age limit of 16 and over for ear piercings, but opinions are divided on the age limit for other body parts”.
Dr. James Ulery Jr. of Skincare Associates in Monroe advised against piercing a child’s ears too early, The Blade reported.
“The problem with piercing the ears at too young an age is that the child can pull on it and the earring can tear.
“Most children get pierced around the age of 9, 10, 11 or 12,” said Dr. Ulery, who warned of the risk of infection from unsterilized equipment.
“Infection is always your biggest problem when it comes to piercings. If people don’t clean or prep the area properly or if someone uses a poor quality earring, you can get an allergic reaction and that can be a big problem.”
The expert added: “A lot of it depends on how the piercing is done. If you go to the mall or other places, they use a spring-loaded gun, which is high force, and it just shoots through the ear and the amount of pressure can really pinch the ear, so it probably hurts more.”
