My acne cleared up instantly when I left out one ingredient – brands sneak it in

A woman in her mid-30s who suffered from acne was amazed at how eliminating a single ingredient from her skincare routine transformed her skin.

She was furious that beauty brands were “secretly” putting it in their products without clear labels.

She told members of the Reddit forum 30 Plus Skincare that she started experimenting with beauty during lockdown.

Since her teenage years, she has used benzoyl peroxide to control her acne and pimples.

However, at the age of 35, she noticed that her skin was getting worse after the birth of her second child.

“I have tried expensive serums (Glow Recipe etc.) and my skin only got worse,” she said, writing under the name Prettylittlejojo.

“Then I got a prescription from Skin and Me, thinking that tretinoin would be the solution.

“I used it for over six months but it made no difference.

“My skin was indeed worse than before.”

The Redditor decided to take a closer look at the products in her daily skincare routine.

“A few weeks ago something clicked and I decided to stop using all products with niacinamide,” she said.

“I realized that skin care brands were secretly putting it in products without clear labels.

“Even my Beauty of Joseph sunscreen contains it.”

She showed impressive photos of what her face looked like before she stopped taking niacinamide and two weeks after she stopped taking it.

“Yes, my pores are a little more visible, but I would rather have that than pimples,” she said.

UNBEARABLE INGREDIENT

Many people gave the post a positive review and expressed their frustrations about the popular ingredient in skin care products.

“Niacinamide is such a sneaky bitch,” someone said.

“I had the same experience, but it happened so slowly after I started using it that I thought it was another product I had recently added to my routine.

“It turns out I’m one of the lucky few who can now check the ingredient list for niacinamide on every product.”

Another commenter was outraged, claiming that brands assume that because it works for some people, it must work wonders for everyone.

They said it is “so frustrating” to see niacinamide listed on almost every new product.

“I detest niacinamide,” they added.

“Every time I tried it, no matter what brand it was, it destroyed my skin and left me with a deep, itchy, red flush.”

Promised benefits

Despite the complaints, niacinamide is often mentioned as a possible treatment for acne.

Niacinamide is a type of vitamin B3 that, according to Healthline improves skin health and prevents environmental damage.
