A NEW homeowner shared how she dealt with a negative experience with her neighbors regarding her mailbox.
Instead of letting them win, she tackled the neighborhood drama with a clever plan and ultimately got her way.
Ashley Brooke (@ashley.brooke22) is 25 and recently bought her first house.
She shared in a viral post TikTok video with more than eight million views, her neighbor’s reaction not only to her move to the neighborhood, but also to the placement of her mailbox.
She explained that he had left her a handwritten note pointing out her crooked mailbox.
NO NONSENSE NEIGHBOUR
“Mailboxes go in a straight line! Maybe you should be more considerate of the people who have lived here for 25+ years. Don’t move in and don’t become a problem and don’t create obstacles for others,” it said.
Ashley didn’t take her words lightly, explaining in the caption that she was “dealing with the wrong bitch.”
“POV: Your annoying neighbor doesn’t know you don’t care about anyone,” the screen read.
She added in the caption that her mailbox had only been open for two days.
She had just moved into the neighborhood and was going to put it back when she saw it was sticking out, but now she doesn’t want to.
“After being disrespected by someone who doesn’t even know me, it still persists,” she said.
Ashley decided to write a long-winded and carefully worded letter outlining her boundaries.
LEGAL LESSON
“I want to ask you to be a little more considerate of new people who are moving into the neighborhood and just trying to build a life for themselves,” she began.
“I am 25 and live in my first home that I worked hard for. I have no intention of coming here to ‘be a problem’. A mailbox is not an excuse for you to be disrespectful and unwelcome to me.”
You know nothing about me because you never tried to talk to me, except for the nasty letter you left in my mailbox. If you had been nicer and more respectful, I might have moved it.”
“However, the post office and the mailman have no problem with its location. Therefore, it remains where it is.”
She shared even more details about herself, including her full-time job, that she doesn’t go to parties and “minds her own business.”
“Be glad I moved here and not some crack addict who would cause you real problems,” she concluded.
She also included an additional document with legal information with the letter.
“Mailboxes are considered federal property and are protected by regulations established by the United States Postal Service,” the statement said.
“Therefore, only authorized persons (postmen and the owner of the mailbox) are allowed to put things in and take them out of the mailbox.”
Despite everything Ashley went through with her noisy neighbor, she left in a sequel video who was eventually able to solve it with the help of her family.
She admitted it wasn’t perfect and that the post needed to be moved further back, but she was “happy and healthy” in her place.
DRIVE REACTIONS
Viewers were not too happy with the decision.
“Girl, I was like, ‘Yeah, go get that lady,’ lol, and then I saw this, lol,” someone said.
“Is this really what all the fuss is about?” asked another.
“As someone who just moved in and had a wife TWO houses down, I say the mess from the renovation is an ‘eyesore’ in MY BACKYARD AND a peeping old man in front of us. Stand. On. Your. Ground,” said one woman.
“You did the right thing. Writing the letter the way you did was also great and hopefully she will understand, apologize and be more neighborly!” one TikTok user chimed in.
