My baby mama and I were annoying hippies and gave our child a ‘mystical’ name
A former flower child and his hippie baby mama regret the unique name they gave their daughter.
They thought it sounded cool at the time, but now that he’s older, his dad says he sometimes feels “bad” even though his daughter “rocks” it.
Reddit user Godzillajrjr explained the nickname in a post on the social media platform.
Together, the couple gave their child a name with a ‘mystical’ connotation.
The father said he regretted not being a “wook” anymore, a slang term for hippie.
He also explained that while the name is often associated with a popular series, the inspiration came from spirituality.
WHAT WAS THE NAME?
He and his partner gave their baby an unusual name when she was born.
“My hippie baby mama and I named our child Eleven,” he said.
“This was before Stranger Things came out. We thought it was mystical, beautiful, cool, and unique — and we were annoying, self-absorbed hippies.
“I always expected her to want to change it, but she’s in high school now and still wears it.
“She says, ‘At least no one forgets my name.'”
He added that while he received some support for the name, he ultimately regretted it.
“A few years ago we were at a swimming pool and a young man came up to me [and] said, “Is your child’s name Eleven? That’s my name.”
“He had only met one other person in his life, he was also a child of hippies from Kentucky.
“Sometimes I feel bad and I keep getting asked what’s up with her name.
“And a lot of people have a bad time, so they ask me if she was named after the show, or they assume she took her name after the show.”
Eleven is a fictional character from the Netflix series Stranger Things, which premiered in 2016.
“Anyway, it’s something I regret now that I’m no longer an official teacher, but I also love my child and her strange name is part of her story,” he added.
“[I] won’t be mad if she starts calling herself Elle or something.”
He also explained why he chose Elf: mysticism.
“The number 11 is a ‘master number’ in numerology, I don’t know what that means,” he said.
“In Kabbalah it symbolizes going through the 10 Sephorah of the Tree of Life and returning to the beginning, a completed spiritual journey.
“There was a lot of talk about 11:11 being a symbol of alignment with the galactic winds or something like that.
“There’s a book about it and a lot of people were talking about it in our new age circles at the time. You had to be there.
“Yes, a great song by the Dead, which once again confirms for us that her name is correct.”
