My boyfriend and I saved £10,000 in 5 months with a special ‘box challenge’
A cash-savvy woman tells how she saved a whopping £10,000 in less than six months.
The social media user, known only as Milly (@budgetmetmilly) took to TikTok to explain how she managed to raise the massive sum in less than five months.
So if you want to get a better handle on your finances or treat yourself to a luxury vacation, you’ve come to the right place.
As millions of cash-strapped households struggle to make ends meet due to rising costs, financially astute Milly explained that the secret to saving is a special ‘box challenge’.
Like many, Milly and her partner were ‘really bad at saving’, but with a simple wooden box it was a piece of cake.
The now viral videowhich has been viewed more than a million times, Milly also showed a box decorated with all kinds of numbers, such as five, ten, twenty and fifty.
Each of these notes was a kind of paper note that the couple would put in the envelope when they had change.
Once the note was in, she explained, they checked off the number with a marker.
Milly was thrilled with the fun way to save money and told them they could put money aside for the ultimate indulgence: a winter holiday this year.
”We used to be so bad at saving and we felt so happy when we could keep track of our progress.
“And it brought us closer to managing our finances — and saved us from having to reach out to my husband’s bank.”
Milly recommended others to try this challenge, saying it was ”a great way to save some change”.
“And if you have a friend or partner, this is a great way to save together,” said Milly, who took the notes weekly.
The best part? Once you’ve saved up the £10k, you can wipe the pen off and reuse the box for another challenge.
The creative idea clearly caught on with TikTok users: the clip has now received no fewer than 34,500 likes and more than 100 comments.
“I want to save up for the winter and go to Lapland,” wrote one travel enthusiast.
