My brilliant plan ensured my mother-in-law didn’t wear white to my wedding

A BRIDE wouldn’t let her future mother-in-law ruin her big day without a little revenge.

She came up with a plan to get a little revenge in case someone overshadowed her at the wedding.

MONSTER-TO-CLEAN

Reddit user Rissie06 told how she and her current husband’s family always got along “really well.”

Until arguments arose over the planning of the wedding, between her and his mother and her own mother, over things like the decorations. But there was one thing she would not compromise on.

“The icing on the cake was the outfit my mother-in-law wanted to wear,” she said.

“She kept showing me pictures of the outfits she wanted to wear, and they were all completely white,” she continued.

“I tried several angles with her. First I tried to push her in a different color direction, then I casually brought up the no-white rule.

She explained that her “direct” approach didn’t seem to work.

However, things took a serious turn when her mother-in-law’s online orders arrived and she was forced to come up with ‘a plan on the fly’.

“I finally got to see this outfit and honestly I was preparing myself for the obvious,” she said.

“That it would be white and I even considered letting the whole white thing go with her, just to save myself the mental pressure.

“But I never thought she would order a literal wedding dress! Luckily it was one of those moments of expectation vs. reality and the quality of the dress was terrible and went straight in the bin!”

NOTHING IS BETTER THAN A LITTLE REVENGE

While some might scream or even cry, she decided to take revenge.

“After I told my sister and the other bridesmaids about the whole situation, I suggested that there should be some sort of punishment for guests, such as mothers-in-law, if they showed up in white,” she said.

“And that’s how the idea of the coat of shame came about,” she added.

She and her sister opted for a yellow reflective jacket that you “usually see construction workers wearing.”

To make sure everyone was aware of the consequences, her sister helped her set up a decoration corner at her bachelorette party to decorate the Coat of Shame.

“It turned out to be a great success!” she said.

“Family members also joined in, using glitter markers and colorful Sharpies to add their own messages, such as, ‘How dare you show up in white,’ ‘Are you the bride? I don’t think so,’ etc.”

IMAGINE THAT

She thought it was very important that no one would steal the show.

The bride-to-be made sure everyone was aware of the implications of wearing white, or anything resembling a wedding dress.

“The jacket cannot be taken off, even for official wedding or family photos,” she said.

And she wasn’t worried about the aftermath.

“Maybe I went too far when someone asked, ‘But doesn’t that ruin your photos and disrupt the whole aesthetic?’” she said.

“I bluntly replied, ‘Not at all! I would frame the photo and hang it in our home as a keepsake/trophy,” she added.

That must have worked, because her mother-in-law ended up wearing a very different wardrobe.

“I don’t need to say I never took that picture. My mother-in-law showed up at our wedding in an all-black mourning outfit,” she said.

“I saw it as a victory, but his mother and aunt continue to criticize me from time to time because they find the jacket so inappropriate.”

Others indicated that they would have liked to join in the jacket fun.

“I would have done my best to convince someone to wear a billowing white cape over their – different colored – dress and make a dramatic entrance! Lol,” said one user.

“I would do it as a joke,” said another Redditor.
