My expensive perfume hack is a godsend: I bought a $135 Gucci dupe for $5
A do-it-yourselfer has found a way to recreate the scents of expensive perfumes without it costing him a lot of money.
She shared her frugal perfume trick that allows her to buy ‘totally right’ designer brand knock-offs for a fraction of the price.
Reddit user Carpenters may have been a fan of expensive fragrances, but she didn’t want to spend money on them.
“I love perfume but I can’t imagine spending more than $30 on perfume,” she explained in a post.
Instead, she discovered that she could purchase perfume oils and transform them into eau de parfums of her favorite scents.
“You find most of the counterfeit perfumes from big name brands at many of the oil perfume companies, and most of them smell exactly the same or almost exactly the same,” she said.
“The oils cost between $3 and $30 depending on the size and where you buy them.”
She was particularly impressed with the oils she found from a seller on Etsy, which she deemed “wonderful.”
“I know a lot of people don’t give a damn about perfume, but for those who love it but can’t afford it or don’t want to spend that much money on it, this is a godsend,” she said.
She told how she even managed to buy a perfume she had been dreaming about for a while.

“I’ve wanted Guilty by Gucci for a long time, but I didn’t want to spend $200 on it,” she said.
“The oil I got from [Elegant Body Oils] “It was absolutely perfect, so I’m very happy.”
The oil cost significantly less than a 1.6 ounce bottle of Gucci Guilty Pour Femme Eau de Parfum, which retails for $135 at Sephora.
While the Etsy shop she originally discovered has since closed, there is another affordable store, We are creationsells counterfeit oils for as little as $5.
The store has hundreds of positive reviews.
She explained that she puts the oil in a lotion, but plans to make her own perfume spray.
“I use them with an unscented lotion and mix that in. Then I put a drop of the oil on my wrist for a more concentrated scent,” she says.
“I do this while I wait for the supplies for perfume production to come in,” she added.
She found a perfume recipe that calls for mixing 190-proof alcohol, vegetable glycerin, and a perfume oil of your choice in a 2-ounce perfume bottle.
For those who can do without DIY, one Redditor shared his favorite knockoff brand: Dossier.
The original poster also featured the popular company and a few others.
“I’ve heard that Generic Perfume, Oil Perfumery, and Perfume Parlour are also reliable sites,” she said.
Other users were grateful for the advice.
“Thanks. I’m a huge fan of oil-based perfumes. I’m going to give them a try,” said one fan.
“Thank you so much for this post! I love lavender but everything is so expensive these days I’ve given up on it,” another commented.
