Reddit user Slimmyshade shared the skin care tip in a post.

She shared that “rubbing” her face with diaper rash cream containing zinc oxide healed her irritated and flaky skin after she got too excited about shaving her face.

“I have a few [of] “I massaged a little too hard around my mouth/chin a few weeks ago and have been experiencing flaking ever since,” she said.

“No matter what I did to my face, it wouldn’t go away. I stopped using it [tretinoin] in general during this time.”

She initially incorporated the cream into her nightly routine, after her moisturizer, then added Aquaphor, which left her skin “glowing and plumper.”

“My skin has improved since then and I’m using tret again (every other night for now),” she said.

“I experimented with adding zinc oxide on the nights I used tret to see how it would go. Now, a week later, I see no more flaking or irritation!”

The Redditor, who lives in Canada, explained that she learned the trick from dermatologist Shereene Idriss.

She noted that her choice of diaper rash cream was the “cheapest random one I could find to try this out.”

Dr. Shereene Idriss recommended viewers try the technique with Triple Paste, which is not available in Canada.

“Zinc oxide is also what we find in diaper rash cream. Zinc oxide itself has anti-inflammatory properties that can help minimize the appearance of redness, swelling and irritation,” Idriss explained in a video.

“If you have eczema, atopic dermatitis, or irritations, zinc oxide can calm your skin, and it does it beautifully. Especially if you have a baby, you’ve seen it with your own eyes.”

The expert added that the soothing ingredient is also why mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide are better suited for people with sensitive skin.

Idriss said that after trying several diaper rash creams, she found Triple Paste to be “the best.”
