My fantastic holiday in North Africa in a luxury hotel with three swimming pools – for a price that is ‘so cheap it’s actually disgusting’

Thought you’d never find an exotic African destination in the holiday bargain bin? Think again. One savvy traveller has revealed how he bagged a trip to Morocco for just £186 – including flights.

Rob Adcock, a BBC TV presenter and travel enthusiast who posts on Instagram under the name @robadcockfound himself ‘browsing Skyscanner for cheap deals’ when he found a ‘cheap flight’ with Ryanair to Agadir in Morocco that piqued his interest.

The travel content creator decided to look at hotels in the North African city and found what he calls “an absolute bargain”: an overnight stay, three spa treatments and breakfast included for £270 for two people.

Rob tells MailOnline Travel: ‘I’m quite a gloomy person and when I’m bored I browse Skyscanner looking for cheap deals.

‘When Morocco came into the picture and Agadir seemed like a good option to fly to, I started doing some research.’

“When I find a deal, I usually look around to see what hotels are nearby. We ended up at the Sofitel. I checked the reviews and they were glowing. When I looked at their website (which I do more often than using third-party booking sites), I saw that they had what looked like an absolute bargain.”

Now, getting the deal wasn’t exactly a walk in the park, with Rob claiming it was ‘not the easiest process’ getting in touch with the hotel with ‘lots of phone calls and hassle’. However, he adds: ‘I’m so glad we persevered.’

He says the vacation he eventually got was almost “too good to be true” and “exceeded his expectations.”

So cheap, ‘it’s disgusting’

In a video explaining the deal, Rob says: ‘I’m sorry I guarded this absolutely worldly holiday. The price to stay here and have a spa day is so low it’s actually disgusting. Me and a mate stayed here and it’s changed our lives for the better.’

Rob explained the cost of the holiday to MailOnline: ‘For the treatments, accommodation and breakfast it was £135 per person. That is unreal to me. For that you can’t even get a room in a normal hotel in some cities in England.

‘I don’t think you can argue about the price.

While at the hotel they enjoyed relaxing in the spa and enjoying the weather

Rob explains: 'One [treatment] was covered in mud and put in a machine that enveloped you and warmed you up. The other was a luxurious hot tub (left) in every way.'

‘[The Ryanair flights were] £31 one way, £20 return. It’s one of their newer routes so it’s still really good value.’

He and his mate didn’t pay for any extras on the flight, adding: ‘As for baggage, we just took our Ryanair under-the-seat specials from EcoHub. I hate paying for baggage so I do everything I can to avoid it. It’s easier if you’re flying somewhere warm for a few days — it’s rare that I need more than the contents of one of the small bags.’

It’s worth the long journey

Flights from the UK to Agadir take just under four hours, but Rob claims it’s worth it.

He notes, “I don’t mind the long flights. Yes, it’s a few hours, but life is busy. So I’m glad I’m not reachable!”

‘I don’t mind the early morning flight either, because I just catch up on some sleep when I get there. And let’s be honest, it’s not exactly tiring when you’re there.’

During their stay at the hotel, the Sofitel Agadir Thalassa Sea & Spa, they enjoyed relaxing in the spa and the many treatments.

Rob notes, “One was getting covered in mud and put in a machine that enveloped you and warmed you up. The other was a fancy hot tub, basically, and the last one was a massage. I imagine there are technical terms for them. But I’d be lying if I said I knew them.”

Showing off the resort, which has three pools, a bar, a beach, three restaurants, a fitness center and spacious rooms, he says: “Imagine yourself down here having a naughty cocktail. A Hugo spritz as the sun goes down.

“It’s also right on the beach. They have their own little bar there and the spa is good quality. We really indulged in the treatments and got really dirty. Just thinking about it makes my skin crawl.”

Pointing to a trio of aqua bikes, Rob jokes: ‘It’s really nice of them to try and make me feel at home by throwing a few discarded bikes in the water. It’s like being back in Stoke-on-Trent.’

Rob explains that he loved the hotel so much that he skipped his usual sightseeing activities.

He adds: ‘It’s the first time I’ve stayed in a hotel for a few days. Usually I’m out exploring – finding out what it’s like in nearby towns and villages.

‘But this place was so nice – we only used the spa and relaxed by the pool. That’s really unusual, but we told ourselves we just wanted to relax before we left, so it worked out really well. We only left the hotel to watch football in the local bar. Perfect!’
