My favorite handy multi-tool is on sale ahead of Amazon Prime Day
“Was that an earthquake, or did a truck pass by?”
I am about a mile away from the fault line in the San Francisco Bay Area That experts say is probably the most dangerous in the region. It’s hard to forget that I live so close, with small shakes every few daysI know I probably don’t know much about a warning before a big earthquake, that’s why I prepare myself for it.
My family and I prepare. We have a contingency plan: we keep our car full of gas, have portable chargers, and know how to turn off the gas. But perhaps the most important things we have are our go bags, also known as bug-out bags.
One item I have included in all of our go bags is this Gerber multitool that includes pliers, scissors, screwdrivers, wire cutters, and a knife. You can spend a lot of money on a multi-tool — and some are absolutely worth it — but since both price and weight were important to me, I chose the Gerber Dime 12-in-1 Mini Multitool.
This multi-tool is worth buying whether it’s on sale or not. It normally retails for around $30, but you can get it for just over $5 off right now.
In addition to having bug out bags on hand, we keep a comprehensive earthquake kit in a large toy chest. With the large kit, weight isn’t really an issue, and we can store enough food, water, and whatever else we need to get us through a few days or even weeks. But in a go bag, every item needs to be portable and essential, because the weight adds up quickly. (This is the mini lantern (I’m going for it.) The Gerber Dime 12-in-1 Mini weighs just a few ounces and fits in the palm of my hand when folded.
