My favorite RC car deal is back for Prime Day with an exclusive CNET discount code
This past Memorial Day, this RC car from Laegendary (not a typo) appeared on CNET’s best deals under $100 and I thought it looked good. I wasn’t sure if I would buy it at the regular price, but it was on sale and my family loves RC cars, so I thought we should give it a try. I’m glad I did, because it turned out to be a great purchase.
This story is part of Amazon Prime DayCNET’s guide to everything you need to know and how to find the best deals.
Now, the makers of this speedy little car are offering CNET readers an exclusive code to get a similar discount for Prime day. If you use the coupon code 25CNETLAE On July 16th or 17th, take 25% off the listed price, dropping the price below $100.
My family and I have about six or seven RC cars now, and for the price and the size, this thing really hits the spot. It has two 1600-mAh, 7.5-volt batteries that can propel the car at about 30 mph for about 40 minutes. The giant wheels — it’s a 1/10 scale car, so it’s pretty sturdy — let you drive it over grass, dirt and asphalt with equal ease.
It also comes with a travel bag for your batteries so you can safely charge them outside. Lithium polymer batteries are sensitive to heat, so it’s a good idea to keep them out of the sun while charging. We’ve been driving around the neighborhood for weeks now, hitting rocks and other RC cars, and it’s handled it like a champ. I especially like the enclosed chassis, so it can safely drive over puddles and wet grass.
When I say it to my $140 Haiboxing Car (also now discounted), it held up wonderfully. It has the same speed as the Haiboxing car, but feels a little slower because it is much bigger. What it lacks in top speed, it makes up for in torque; this thing comes up on its rear wheels from a standstill and pushes through even the tallest grass in our neighborhood.
We built a small ramp for it to jump over, and it performed fine there too, with no damage or stuttering. The controller is good, with trim and power controls, and the foam grip on the control wheel feels much better than the hard plastic on cheaper models. It also has a range of 250 feet, so you can drive it around a track without worrying about losing connection.
It was a stupid idea to buy another RC car, but I’m glad we decided to do it. It’s just as good as the more expensive cars we already have and would make a great gift for anyone who likes gadgets. Want something that flies instead? Check out the best drones You can buy it now.
