My favorite smart glasses get a surprise update because Meta announces 20 June event

Oakley and Meta officially work together on something – I mean, it’s smart glasses, right? – And we will come across everything in just a few days on June 20, 2025.
Meta’s CTO, Andrew Bosworth, went to social media to share a bombastic promotional video with the Meta and Oakley Logos.
This announcement has been done for a long time. We have heard for the first time that Meta Oakley versions of his Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses has developed back in JanuaryAnd it’s very logical.
The Ray-Ban smart glasses belong to Meta’s most popular gadgetsAnd if another brand Essilorluxtics, Oakley, is in an excellent position to try to undertake at the Smart Glasses promotion.
What is strange, however, is that Meta does not make this revelation at Meta Connect in September, as normal. Instead of, According to the Oakley website, “The next evolution comes on June 20.”
Regarding what that evolution could look like, according to the leaks, the Oakley specifications will be based on the Sphaera glasses. The specifications of the glasses would apparently be comparable to the current model of beam lanes (ie camera, no display), but the camera shifting to the center of the glass frame and includes functions to address cyclists and athletes.
Technically, Meta did not specifically say that we get Oakley Smart glasses, but given the previous leaks and that Oakley is a glasses brand, it is anything but certain that we do indeed get.
Bring the fight to Android XR
This may have always been the plan, but given how unusual the timing is, I can only feel that this is a response to the recent one from Google Android XR debut.
Five brands work with Google To make Android XR glasses, including SamsungXreal and Gentle Monster. Yet Meta has only had one partner so far.
Although Meta is barely on the rear foot, the most important advantage is that the glasses are not only available, but also dominates the space of smart glasses. And because of his Oakley specifications earlier instead of launching later, Meta does not give Android XR time to breathe.
We do not expect the first Android XR specifications to be started until 2026, and that can cause problems for the new XR operating system If the space is already saturated with great meta specifications.
Another advantage of launching now is that it gives meta’s other rumors Smart Glasses project space to possess Meta Connect.
That is of course the leaked smart glasses with a screen. According to rumors you can see apps and reports with a system that sounds identical for everything that Google has announced for his AR glasses.
Again, while Google was the first to present the next generation AR specifications of the next generation, Meta is apparently the first mainstream company that actually launches a few, with that announcement still probably set for Meta Connect 2025.
We will have to wait and see what Meta announces on June 20 and in September, but Ray-Ban’s smart glasses will remain one of my favorite gadgets of the past few years, and I am overjoyed that it will finally get some hardware updates.
