My fence was ugly but instead of replacing it I used a £5 trick to hide them
A clever woman shared how she covered up her ‘ugly’ fence instead of replacing the entire fence.
Susan took to social media to share her budget-friendly DIY project and people were amazed.
Fence panels can be expensive, with B&Q estimating that each one costs around £30 on average, so she decided to cover them up rather than replace them.
She said, “I used outdoor rugs on an ugly fence.
“£5 per rug and stapled. Much better, love it.”
Susan showed off her brand new garden fence, which was covered in large plastic black and white zebra print outdoor rugs.
The maximalist rugs added a pop of color to the average-looking garden.
The savvy shopper said she bought the rugs from the online store, adding: “There’s not much choice but I’m happy with what I got.”
Susan added that the outdoor rugs were plastic so it was fine to be outside.
“They are very light and breathable. It is woven plastic for outdoors and hides an ugly fence,” she continues.
Susan didn’t share photos of the fencing before she hung the rugs, but she claims her new decorations are a huge improvement.
She shared her trick on the Facebook group, Gardening On a budgetwhere it went viral with over 300 likes.
People were quick to react to this bold addition, with some saying it looked great, others calling it “hideous.”
Someone wrote: “Sorry, but that’s really awful… they smell awful when they get soaked in the rain.
“I am now concerned about the wildlife with what people are doing to their gardens. Plastic grass and now rugs tied to the fences, dear Lord, save us.”
Another commented: “What a great idea!”
How high can a garden fence be?
Despite popular belief, a garden fence can be 100 metres high. For any fence higher than 2 metres, you need a permit.
No building permit is required for fences shorter than 2 metres.
There are some complications, however.
If you are considering installing a fence for your front garden, there are restrictions: fences along a driveway may be a maximum of 1 metre high.
You will need a building permit to put a trellis on a 2m fence.
If a plant you grow on the rack is longer than 2 meters, you do not need to apply for a permit.
“They wear out. I accidentally left one outside over the winter and this year it has fallen apart in places,” wrote a third.
“Yes, probably, but it makes a Nice “What a difference from that ugly fence!” replied Susan.
Meanwhile, a fourth said: “That looks so handsome.”
“What a great idea, amazing,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “Fantastic.”
