My friend has a plan to save money on her family trip – people say it’s ‘so stupid’
A MOTHER OF FOUR has caused a stir online with her divisive family hotel getaway trick.
The woman’s friend expressed her concern about the tip to save money and explained that it is absolutely not allowed.
In a after On Mumsnet, the user explained how her friend saved a significant amount of money on her hotel bill during a trip to Spain.
“[My] “My girlfriend is leaving later today with her husband and four children, aged 4 to 16, on holiday to a large hotel abroad,” the poster said.
She clarified that the trip was not a package tour, meaning no meals were included and flights were booked separately.
The mother of four was faced with a dilemma when she realised that a maximum of two adults and two children could stay in a room.

“The room has a small bedroom, a bathroom and a living room with a sofa bed,” the Mumsnet user explains.
To accommodate her entire family, the mother had to book a second room.
Instead of spending double the amount, she came up with a cunning solution.
“She wants to check in with her husband, their two youngest sons and all their luggage,” the poster read.
She added that her friend planned to leave her two eldest sons “waiting outside until they could be ‘smuggled in’ a little later.”
The Mumsnet user pointed out the potential problem with the hotel hack.
“I think it is logistically possible, but it will have consequences,” she said.
She suspected the sly ploy might have had “insurance implications” and posed a security risk.
However, the mother of four saw no problem with her work.
“[My] “My boyfriend thinks there is no problem and no one will find it strange,” she wrote.
However, Mumsnet users were less optimistic about the hack’s success.
Legit Ways to Save Money on a Family Vacation
Travel and Leisure shared some useful tips for saving money during a family vacation.
Book early or last minute
If you are prepared, you will avoid surcharges during peak periods. However, due to cancellations, airlines and hotels often offer last-minute deals.
Use your children to get a discount
Hotels and resorts often offer deals and discounts for children under a certain age to entice families.
Find a place with a kitchen
Choosing a self-catering apartment instead of a hotel room can save you and your family money by not having to eat out every time.
Avoid extra baggage charges
Consider renting equipment locally, such as cots or car seats. This is often cheaper than checking your own belongings onto the plane.
“That’s so stupid. They WILL get caught and it will either be extra [money] “Otherwise they will end up on the streets,” wrote one reader.
“It doesn’t matter if they’re losing money for their business, overstaffing can void their insurance.”
“I work in a hotel. If someone did this and there was a fire, we would only be looking for the people booked into the room,” another person noted.
“I wouldn’t be able to relax for fear of being thrown out of the hotel,” said a third commenter.
With four children of that age it is not a comfortable holiday. There will be some bickering in such a small space.
“Hotel staff will notice that there are two extra people present, which will have consequences for the safety of the hotel.”
“Your friend is an idiot. I worked in a hotel and we threw people out for this,” said another.
