Alexia Donovan is the Director of Customer Service at Guild of Barber Surgeons.

She has been working in the hair loss industry for almost 16 years, helping others tackle their problems and regrow their hair.

Donovan has dark, medium-length, slightly wavy hair that she attributes to her Lebanese heritage. She reveals tips on how to care for it.

LASER LESSONS

Speaking to The US Sun, she opened up about some of the issues she faced postpartum and how she dealt with them.

“After having children, I started losing my hair, as expected, but I wasn’t prepared for how much I would lose,” she said.

She used a specific product to ‘speed up the regrowth process’.

Laser caps are non-invasive devices that are placed on your head and use low-intensity laser therapy to stimulate hair growth.

They can be quite expensive, often thousands of dollars.

In addition to the laser cap, she also regularly uses other methods.

BUDGET PURCHASES

When it comes to budget-friendly products, Donovan recommends specific purchases.

The secret behind native Hondurans’ thick, beautiful hair is a little-known oil, doctor says — plus more growth ingredients

She advised using mild shampoos that are free of sulfates, parabens and preservatives.

The three main ingredients are palmetto, ketoconazole, and caffeine.

HOLY GRAIL HELP

Donovan shared a holy grail procedure she can’t live without.

“I believe everyone can benefit from PRP for their hair growth,” she said.

According to Johns Hopkins MedicinePlatelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections are becoming increasingly popular in the treatment of a variety of conditions, from sports injuries to hair loss.

A patient’s blood is centrifuged to separate platelets, blood cells that play a role in healing.

This is then injected back into the body to speed up the healing process and can be used to heal hair follicles.

Donovan admitted that she often hits the gym and wears her locks in a tight ponytail so they don’t get in her face.

Many professionals warn against this haircut, as it can cause thinning hair.

“PRP has protected my edges from traction and thinning,” she said.

CONTRIBUTING FACTORS

According to the expert, genes, hormones and aging are common causes of thinning hair.

“We see that many patients suffer from hair loss due to tight hairstyles and traction,” she says.

She added that stress can also worsen or accelerate the problem.

But if you’re looking for solutions to hide bald spots, Donovan advises asking your hairdresser for advice when you get your hair cut.

“Be honest and tell them. They are creative magicians!” she said.

She added that there are great topical fibers on the market.

“For a more permanent solution, our patients use Scalp Camo or micropigmentation,” she advised.

Scalp camouflage is a non-invasive treatment that uses micro-fine needles to apply pigment in the correct color directly to the scalp, according to the Barber Surgeon’s Guild.
