My hair has grown from my shoulder blades to my waist – I swear by a step that should not be taken
Growing your hair can often be a tedious and time-consuming task.
However, one woman had the opposite experience and shared that she was shocked to see that her locks had grown longer.
In her Reddit afteruser Solid-Obligation-620 showed a comparison of her hair length.
In the first photo, her locks reached just below her shoulder blades, while the next photo showed the progress of her hair growth.
In the last photo, the poster’s long hair reaches almost to her tailbone.
“[I] I just wanted to share my progress with you guys!” the Reddit user wrote in the caption.
She shared that her goal was to achieve a tailbone length, which she almost achieved.
“[I’m] in principle there but [I] “I want to improve the thickness at the bottom,” she explained.
The Reddit user added that her hair was damaged from dyeing it before she started growing it out.
She revealed the exact hair care steps she’s been taking over the past five years.
Before taking her story down, the Redditor admitted that she wasn’t very careful with her hair care.
“Honestly, I’m not the BEST with my hair, nothing compared to others in this area [haircare] “submarine,” she explained.
“I generally don’t use heat tools on my hair, except [for] blow dry occasionally [it].”
She explained that she usually leaves her hair down and doesn’t style it.
“If I have to put it up, I use a silk scrunchie and a low ponytail,” she revealed.
The Reddit user added that she also sleeps on silk pillowcases to reduce frizz.
But it’s her hair washing routine that’s most controversial among hair care fanatics.
The 4 Phases of the Hair Growth Cycle
Hair experts at Philip Kingsley shared the four stages of the hair growth cycle: Anagen, Catagen, Telogen and Exogen
Anagen phase:Also called the ‘growth phase’ or ‘active phase’, is the phase in which the cells in the hair root divide most rapidly, causing more new hair to be formed.
During the Anagen Phase, hair grows about half an inch per month [about six inches a year]and faster in summer than in winter.
This phase of the hair growth cycle lasts an average of three to five years.
Catagen phase:After the anagen phase, your hair cycle enters a short transition phase called the catagen phase. This phase marks the end of active hair growth and separates individual hairs from the blood supply and the cells that produce new hair.
About three percent of all hairs are in this stage at any one time and it lasts about 10 days.
Telogen phase:The third phase of your natural hair growth cycle is the telogen phase, a resting period during which hairs remain in their follicles but are not actively growing.
It is estimated that 10-15 percent of your hair is in the telogen phase at any given time.
The telogen phase lasts about three months or 100 days.
Exogenous phase:The final stage of the hair growth cycle, when individual hair strands release from their follicles and fall out.
Now the whole process starts again.
She revealed that she washes her locks daily, something that hair experts say is a total no-no.
“When I wash my hair, I put it in a microfiber towel and make sure not to move it too much because that creates friction,” she explains.
The poster revealed that she uses the Briogeo Cherry Shampoo and Conditioner, which are available as a combo for £36.05 at Sephora.
She also uses the Neuma Repair Leave-in Conditionerwhich sells for £26.
Finally, she said that she “occasionally” applies rosemary oil to her hair.
Reddit users shared their thoughts about her hair growth in the comments.
“Beautiful! I still have such a long way to go,” wrote one impressed reader.
“I’m at your 2019 height and [I] it feels like it’s in my chest area [and] “I haven’t gotten any further there in the last two years. My goal is also my tailbone,” someone else shared.
