My hair is falling out in a circular patch on my scalp – I’ve tried everything

A celebrity makeup artist has revealed that she woke up one day with a bald spot on her scalp, and it hasn’t grown back since.

Alopecia areata is a disease that occurs when the immune system attacks the hair follicles, causing hair loss.

Hair follicles are the structures in the skin that form hair. Although hair can be lost on any part of the body, alopecia areata most commonly affects the head and face.

It can also happen if the person has experienced a lot of stress or trauma, something Nicole thinks happened to her.

She took over TikTok to share her story about her hair loss, which started at the beginning of the year.

But after trying many different techniques, Nicole found that very few worked.

However, she is now discovering what not to use and wants to share that with her followers on her TikTok account called @nicoledoesmakeup.

At the beginning of her journey, she invested in a “load of products” to see if they could regenerate hair follicles.

Nicole, who uses a colour spray to cover the bald spot, first revealed that she uses VICHY Dercos Technique Anti Hair Loss Care for Women, which costs £54.64 on Amazon.

The treatment lasts for 21 days, but it is recommended to use it for three months.

She also uses a scalp massager to very lightly massage the product into her hair, before adding rosemary oil in sections and repeat with the massage device.

Then she leaves it on overnight and washes it out the next morning with a hair growth shampoo.

Nicole says, “It’s shocking to me because my hair is incredibly thick and I have a lot of hair. It honestly started when I woke up one day and had a hole in my head.”

She also changed her diet, adding foods that support the autoimmune system such as: cruciferous vegetables and vitamin C. Olive oil and flaxseed.

Nicole makes sure to take biotin pills and zinc, which are also good for the skin and autoimmune system.

However, four months later Nicole revealed that she still suffers from hair loss and that she has completely changed her techniques.

She now takes Minoxidil morning and night, which she thinks has “helped.”

Minoxidil is a medication used to treat high blood pressure and hereditary hair loss.

Although the remedy works on the original bald spot, Nicole has found that she still has some catching up to do as her alopecia spreads.

She also uses Betamethasone, a topical steroid that can be used to treat alopecia areata. Prednisone is an immunosuppressant that is occasionally used in rapidly progressive alopecia areata in an attempt to stop the condition.

Nicole is now also receiving injections to “stimulate hair and regrowth.”

She concludes her video by saying, “I look at the other medical options I have in Europe.

“And I don’t know of any alopecia treatments at the moment. I also invested quite a bit of money in a real hair wig.

“I really like it, and people often don’t notice it’s a wig.”
