She said they decided to go for a cost-saving solution rather than using regular fence panels.

“Our fence – I’m very proud of my husband – is a cheap solution: all the planks are made of pallets,” she added.

Instead of opting for fence panels, which start at £30 and can cost over £100, the couple use pallets.

Pallets are often used on construction sites and you can find them online for a bargain.

While Dontrell didn’t say exactly how much they spent on the pallets, you can pick them up on eBay for as little as £5.

She said she had treated the wood with two coats of Sadolin matt varnish to ensure it would withstand all weather conditions.

A pot of varnish costs around £70 and she said it was ‘the most expensive’ part of the whole fence renovation.

The end result was a beautiful herringbone pattern on the fence, preventing neighbors from peering through.

“Thank you for your beautiful comments. I hope it inspires someone,” she added.

And so it happened, as many wondered if her husband could do the same to their daughter.

She jokingly added, “Unfortunately, I am not renting to my husband at this time.”

The post was shared in the Facebook group, home garden diyand went viral with over 600 likes and over 100 comments.

People were quick to respond, praising her husband for his DIY skills.

Someone wrote: “That’s beautiful, so different.”

How high can a garden fence be?

Despite popular belief, a garden fence can be 100 metres high. For any fence higher than 2 metres, you need a permit.

No building permit is required for fences shorter than 2 metres.

There are some complications, however.

If you are considering installing a fence for your front garden, there are restrictions: fences along a driveway may be a maximum of 1 metre high.

You will need a building permit to put a trellis on a 2m fence.

If a plant you grow on the rack is longer than 2 meters, you do not need to apply for a permit.

Another commented: “He did a great job. Very nice.”

“That fence is a work of art! Amazing design,” wrote a third.

Meanwhile, a fourth said: “Wow, that’s amazing, such a talent.”

“That looks amazing!!! Well done!!!” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “Excellent work.”
