My husband told his coworkers that I am his sister – I searched his phone to confirm this
A WOMAN was shocked to hear her husband tell his colleagues that she was a family member, not someone with a romantic streak.
She didn’t want to let him get away with it and set out to find out the truth. She wanted to know if her marriage was a ruse or if it was just a misunderstanding.
Reddit user Throwra takeaway crab said that although she and her husband have been together for six years and married for four, he apparently has lost memory about who she is.
She considered theirs a “healthy” and “communicative” relationship and was shocked to discover that her husband’s coworkers had no idea she was his partner.
She said that since she started working for him three years ago, she had never been invited to meet any of his colleagues, although she didn’t seem to mind that much.
A REVEALING TOUCH
Until she was approached in a strange way in a bar by someone who seemed to know her.

After telling her that he worked with her husband, she recognized him from some photos on her husband’s phone.
However, she became even more confused when he commented on how wonderful it was that she and her husband were so close, considering he hadn’t spoken to his own brother “in ages.”
She assumed he was drunk and left with her friends shortly after he started acting “flirty.”
She decided not to tell anyone about it.
“I also decided not to tell my husband that I had met his coworker Jake,” she said.
“Not to hide it, but because I thought the guy wouldn’t even remember talking to me. Plus, I didn’t want to embarrass Josh at work by telling him that his coworker had hit on me.
“I just thought it couldn’t hurt.”
But she couldn’t ignore the next strange occurrence.
Here we go again,
When she was at a local cafe with her dog, an older man turned out to already know the dog.
“He grabbed his coffee, turned around, but stopped, looked at my dog and said, ‘Hi Monty!’” she said.
“Monty was apparently very excited to see him, so I suspected the man was a colleague of Josh’s, as Josh brings the dog into the office a few times a week.”
And the dog wasn’t the only thing he recognized.
“He introduced himself (I correctly guessed it was a coworker), but then he said something like, ‘Aren’t you a good sister, walking the dog for him!'”
She was so surprised that she replied that it was her dog, but that was the only way she could tell the truth.
“I regret it, but I really couldn’t bring myself to correct him and say that I am Josh’s wife and not his sister,” she said.
“It was just too uncomfortable and I just wanted to leave because I think it suddenly hit me what was going on.”
She didn’t know how to deal with this difficult situation.
“But the thought of him telling his coworkers that I’m his sister (and apparently they’ve seen what I look like, so they must have seen pictures) makes my stomach turn,” she said.
“I don’t even know how to broach the subject with him.”
DETECTIVE PLAY
To confirm her suspicions, there was only one thing left for her to do.
“I took some advice and decided to go through his phone while he was sleeping,” she said.
She said she knows his access code “by heart.”
It didn’t take long before she found something that made her antenna go up—way up.
“Anyway, I was already angry when I saw him having a lot of one-on-one conversations with different female colleagues,” she said.
While she didn’t blame him for communicating with his colleagues, she did find some messages to be “vaguely flirtatious,” consisting of winking emojis or “playful” innuendos.
“That obviously made me angry and it confused me a little bit, but I couldn’t find anything to indicate that he was having a full-blown affair with either of them,” she said.
Still, she took screenshots of the messages and continued her search for more “evidence” of the lie.
IN FLAMES
When she remembered that a commenter had suggested she search for the keyword “sister,” a treasure trove of texts emerged.
Her previous encounter with her colleague at the bar had played tricks on her.
I ran into your sister on [the bar] on Friday. She’s single, right?” the message read.
Her husband replied, “No, she’s married.”
She was literally on fire.
“I almost burst into flames when I saw that,” she says.
“I can’t even describe how much I was shaking when I read those messages.”
While going through the old messages, she found a group chat with a photo of the couple celebrating their second wedding anniversary in Bali.
He simply wrote: ‘Me and my sister in Nusa Dua.’
“I had tears in my eyes when I saw all this, that speaks for itself,” she said.
She thought he only sent the photo because he wasn’t wearing a shirt.
When he finally confronted him, he initially denied that her claims were true, then admitted that he had done it to fit in at his job, which he described as a “frat house” because his coworkers were much younger.
She now had to decide whether to forgive or forget—in other words, file for divorce.
PEOPLE WEIGH IN
Others thought they saw very clearly what was really happening here.
“So he’s either having an affair at work or he’s keeping his options open. Neither is good,” one user said.
“My thoughts were [he said this] so he appeared [to be] single. He opens up the possibility of cheating or is he already,” agreed another.
“He might be cheating on you but you will never know. He is a liar and would never tell you,” one Redditor wrote.
“I think you know your marriage is over. At least I hope so before you waste any more time on this loser,” they added.
“That man has been playing you for three years. You deserve better!” someone else chimed in.
