My living room was stuck in the 90s. I transformed it with an £80 purchase

A mum has revealed how she transformed her living room from dull and boring to luxurious for just £80.

Sophie Cullen moved into a Doer upper house three and a half years ago and immediately started transforming her house into her dream home.

When she first moved into the property, her living room was stuck in the 1990s, with garish floral wallpaper, outdated chandeliers and a dull brown sofa.

The mother of two was quoted thousands of times by builders to professionally refurbish the property, so she decided to give the property a makeover herself.

She bricked up the old fireplace, painted the walls and added a cozy cream rug and stylish sofa to brighten up the room.

But the DIY project that really takes the room to the next level is Sophie’s glamorous-looking ceiling.

Sophie used San Marco Polo for the beautiful ceiling Luxury paint, price €80.

She applied it to fresh plaster, using a criss-cross motion with a wide B&Q paintbrush.

“What I do is push the metal filaments in this paint around to create a cloudy effect,” she said, demonstrating her technique in a video on TikTok.

Sophie’s criss-cross technique gives the ceiling a cloud-like effect, where the metallic color of the paint makes the ceiling shine.

“It’s amazing,” said Sophie.

The DIY pro revealed that the paint dries quickly and is perfect for anyone who is messy.

“Don’t get me wrong, this project took time, but it was totally worth it,” she said.
